The Angry Woman Suite by Lee Fullbright + giveaway

Disclosure: I received this book to review. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

I just don’t even know where to start with this review.

Stunned?  Definitely.  Surprised?  Yes.  Confused?  A little.  The Angry Woman Suite just took my brain and shook it up like a cocktail of fear, sadness, and a tiny sliver of hope.   Lee Fullbright must have a wall full of mapped-out twists and turns for this story somewhere because I really didn’t see any of it coming!

In The Angry Woman Suite, we meet three individuals who were destined to be connected in some way.  You might think, from reading the synopsis posted below, that you can guess this story but really, I don’t think so.  When I read the first few pages, I wasn’t sure I wanted to read the rest of it.  The descriptions were sad and terrifying; I just never deal well when bad things happen to kids.  But then in the second chapter, I started to second-guess what was going on. By the time the third individual came into the picture, I was starting to hear the wheels turning in my mind.  I pressed on and was rewarded by a thrilling story. [Read more…]

Tour Page & Schedule

Alright, let’s talk about Harlequin books.

I’ve shied away from them in the past, feeling as though they would lack the intensity or depth of the historical fiction I generally prefer.   Suddenly Last Summer has this sugar-sweet cover that really seemed to belie the story.  Or so I thought!  [Read more…]

The Last Bride by Beverly Lewis and Rival Hearts by Tara Randel

Disclosure: I received these books to review. This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links

If you’re a married woman, do you look back on your wedding day with fond memories? Of course, most of us do, even if those memories are tainted by later experiences.  In The Last Bride by Beverly Lewis, we meet Tessie Ann who starts out her marriage with a bit of a snag.  Her father won’t give his blessing and flat out forbids the wedding to take place.   Since Tessie Ann is the last of her sisters to wed, plus she’s Amish, she’s a little bit anxious to tie the knot.  There are a lot of expectations and traditions brought forth in this book that I wasn’t aware of before.  I was especially curious about the rise in genetic defects in Amish babies; that’s a topic I haven’t read about in other Amish fiction.   [Read more…]

Local Deals, How We Love Thee

This post brought to you by morebank. All opinions are 100% mine.

Our family likes to support local businesses whenever possible. Sure, we buy stuff at the big box stores, too.  When we’re given the option and the price point is comparable, we try to choose the small business that came from the hopes and dreams of our community members.  Also, both my husband and I are educators who taught many of the children in this area.  Their parents are employed by local businesses and by supporting those stores, we’re supporting those families.  We understand that it’s difficult for small businesses to offer the same deep discounts that the bigger stores can leverage.  That’s why apps like liveasy seem so helpful!  [Read more…]

By now, summer vacation might be feeling like an albatross around your neck.  The kids are sick of each other, it’s hot outside, and you don’t have a lot of money to spend on activities.  Feeling it?  There are ways to use things you have right in your house to keep the kids busy with ZERO prep work on your part.  In one of my early education classes, my professor said she could teach an entire math semester using only a phone book.  I marveled at that statement but now realize what she meant.  Be creative and get the kids busy with things you have at your house!   Here are some ideas. Gift giving made easy (and get $15 credit!) at #Omax300 + giveaway

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post; the opinions shared here are 100% mine.

Get $15 in-store credit when you buy $300 in Visa® Gifts at Office Max (6/22 through 6/29) #Omax300 #ad savingsinseconds.com   Once upon a time my kids were happy with the smallest things in life.  At Christmas or at birthdays, my daughter asked for only one gift and it was usually something very small (like a pack of markers).  As time goes on, she’s still asking for only one thing but it’s often quite expensive.  Ipads, laptops, and such don’t come cheap.  When my husband’s nephew graduated this year, it was hard to know what he needs. We live 7 hours away from him so we really don’t know what items he already has.  Since he’s heading for college in the fall, we knew that he would need things for his dorm room.  We decided the best thing to give would be money.  He’ll be able to prioritize and pick out exactly what he wants.  As the saying goes, it’s better to give than to receive, but what if you don’t have to choose between the two?  We don’t expect him to give anything back, but it’s nice that OfficeMax will! Ways to spice up summer days

Disclosure: I received product samples. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

I can’t believe it’s already mid-June. It seems like I was just saying that last year and here it is again! The first month of summer break flew by. The kids are starting to get sick of each other around this time. It’s time to spice up summer days with some new experiences, don’t you think?

We’ve been eating out a lot this week since the air conditioner was out. I just couldn’t bear to cook in the kitchen for any length of time because it was so daggone hot in here! I’ve posted before about the joys of Restaurant.com but this week we had a huge need for dining-out savings since we darkened the doors of many air-conditioned restaurants. [Read more…]
