Shoes of the season

I’m always in the mood to find cute shoes.  The August heat still has me wearing sandals and wedges most of the time.  The shoes of the season look great, though, and I’m starting to look forward to the boots, slip-ons, and sneakers that my feet will enjoy this fall.

Fun, laughs, and encouragement from (and for) the girls in your life

Being a mom of a tween and the teacher of 6th grade girls, I can say one thing for certain.  I wouldn’t want to go back to those adolescent days for anything!  I was a very moody teenager; I remember crying during class on more than one occasion.  It was probably for attention, maybe due to hormones, or perhaps brought on by some kind of teenage heartache.  Oh, what a toxic mixture for a mother-daughter relationship that could be!  My mom and I weren’t close at all during those years and, looking back, I can’t say that I blame her.  It was probably much safer to stay far, far away from me!   If you’re in that boat, check out these books that might help your daughter to enjoy those years — and you to enjoy her!   [Read more…]

Books that bring Heaven to earth

Disclosure: I received this book to review. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

Tonight my husband told me about an accident that one of our college friends suffered over the weekend.  While mowing the lawn, the man’s mower overturned and tumbled down a hill while he was trapped under the rollbar.  It sounds like the bar actually saved him, praise the Lord!!   We all know that life is fleeting but it’s easy to let that reality slip by us at times, isn’t it?   If you need a little bit of encouragement this week, check out these books that bring heaven to earth.   [Read more…]

Appalachian Fair – Quite possibly the only time my kids are excited about coupons

Tonight we went with friends to the Appalachian Fair in Gray, TN.   We parked way too far away, spent way too much money, and got a little sunburned.  We also had loads and loads of fun!!  Sounds like the perfect way to spend a summer evening, right???   The last time I went to the Appalachian Fair was about 7 years ago when my daughter was really young.  My kids were completely ecstatic about going (of course) because they’re used to me being the Helicopter Mom who doesn’t let them do anything remotely scary.  I still cringe inside when I think about that gigantic ferris wheel we rode.  But you know what?  We survived and had a great time!
