This was a busy weekend!  My husband had a doctor’s appointment at Vanderbilt, which is about 5 hours away from us, so we drove down early to make sure we were there on time.  We stayed at Nashville Shores campground which is right on Priest Lake. Such a beautiful setting!  The waterpark was closed, but sitting by the lake was still wonderful.  My daughter and I got to visit Parnassus Books — which is now a must-do on every Nashville trip — and I treated myself to a book that’s been on my list for a while.

The Dry is a terrific crime novel debut from author Jane Harper.  Immediately, the reader is drawn in by such a sad mystery.  It’s a book that makes you want to find out what happens, just so you can absolve the presumed-guilty party from any wrongdoing.  As for Aaron Falk, it’s been a long time since a main character made me care this much.  I tried to avoid reading the final chapters, trying to convince my husband to take me back to the bookstore so I could get the next one in the series, but he didn’t understand my absolute need to read book 2 right away!

If you liked Into the Water by Paula Hawkins or Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, you might enjoy The Dry!

Just in case you wanted to see inside Parnassus Books, here are some photos for you.

I just loved it!  My daughter said, “I want to work in a place like this.”  ME, TOO!!   It was such a delight to breathe air in this space.  Can’t wait to visit it again!
