This Much Country by Kristin Knight Pace @GrandCentralPub

Disclosure: I received a free book from the publisher. Post may contain affiliate links; I may earn commission if you make a purchase. Opinions shared here are mine.

Around this time of year, I start to realize how shamefully lazy I am.  All I want to do is sit around in my sweatpants.  My cat feels the same way, apparently, because he currently has his face smooshed up against my arm while he snoozes on the blanket.  If I move, he moves his smoosh with me.

NCircle Winter Christmas Holiday DVD

Disclosure:  I received DVDs as part of the NCircle Entertainment Ambassador program.  Opinions shared are mine.

Compared to many households, we’re an odd family when it comes to the TV.  You see, we have one main screen that is located in the family room.  There’s another TV in the master bedroom, but it rarely gets used.  We usually enjoy TV together as a family, and we have some fairly high standards for what our kids can watch.  NCircle Entertainment offers quality content that provides educational and creative opportunities.  Their videos are affordable and plentiful.   I’m so excited to share their DVDs with you as part of our holiday gift guide.  These need to be at your house for the winter break!

One lucky reader will win a DVD prize pack from NCircle Entertainment [Read more…]

Homespun – Amish and Mennonite Women in Their Own Words * edited by Lorilee Craker from Herald Press @lorileecraker @Herald_Press

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book for review, but a positive review was not required. Post contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase, I may earn commission. Opinions shared are mine.

At the heart of it, Christian women are similar.  It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing designer jeans or a homespun dress.  People don’t really care if you’re the mother of five or an auntie to two cats.  In the end, it’s not about you.  It’s about all of us, together, sharing this space and time on Earth.  Reading Homespun, a collection of Amish and Mennonite women’s stories in their own words, reminded me of the Jesus sisterhood.  We’re in this together.  The rules we follow for clothes and electricity usage are just not even pertinent.  [Read more…]

Today I got the news that “Chief” Perkins passed away. He was the minister at the small church I walked to as a child.  He was 95 years old when he passed!  Chief was always so kind to me.  He gave me a $2 bill for my birthday each year (as he did with all the children). When I moved away for college, he and his wife sent me cards occasionally with $5 and a note to get a Big Mac.  Hearing that he passed gave my heart joy because I can only imagine what he’s doing right now in heaven!  His was a life well lived.

The Melody of the Soul by Liz Tolsma Blog Tour and Facebook Live

Disclosure: I received this book free through the blog tour. Opinions shared are mine.

Historical fiction is my go-to genre. I love learning a little something more each time I read, and Liz Tolsma always provides an excellent view of life during a wartime era.  Of all the Liz Tolsma books I’ve read, The Melody of the Soul is my favorite.   [Read more…]

Extraordinary DVD available January 16 #ExtraordinaryMovie

Disclosure: I will receive a DVD for my video library. Opinions shared are mine.

My daughter is so much more level-headed than I was at her age.  She doesn’t want to date at all right now; instead, she wants to focus on becoming the best version of herself.  We’ve prayed for both of our children’s future spouses even before they were born, though, and I am hopeful that God will be faithful in providing loving Christian mates for my children.  My husband and I have tried to model a strong, faith-based Christian marriage for them, but it’s not always easy!   The upcoming movie Extraordinary describes the finish-the-race mentality of one remarkable marriage.

A Name Unknown by Roseanna White – book review

Disclosure: I received this book to review; opinions shared are mine.

Imagine a group of Dickens-like characters in a Downton Abbey setting.  Though that scenario doesn’t seem like it would work, A Name Unknown combines the two themes in a surprising blend of romantic intrigue.
