The Pink Bonnet by Liz Tolsma #ThePinkBonnet #NetGalley

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. Opinions shared are mine.

The True Colors series has so much potential! It’s a great option for readers who enjoy clean stories (no profanity or graphic bedroom scenes) but suspense. I read many thrillers, so this series is exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, taking out some of the more “mature” stuff also seems to take away some of the depth. At least, that’s how I felt about The Pink Bonnet by Liz Tolsma.

Daisies are Forever – a WWII book from Liz Tolsma

Just a few days ago, we celebrated Memorial Day. My daughter asked why Memorial Day is important and I tried to explain that freedom is never really free.
Daisies Are Forever - it's as amazing as the cover! savingsinseconds.com So many men and women sacrificed a great deal, even their lives, to ensure our freedom. One day is not really enough to say “Thank you” for that sacrifice, but it’s a start. I come from a military family; my parents even met at a military base during the Vietnam war. I received Daisies Are Forever to review and decided that this was a great time to read it. The book was a huge reminder of the cost of war. In this book by Liz Tolsma, young Gisela fights for her life while protecting her charges.

On My Bookshelf: Snow on the Tulips by Liz Tolsma

Disclosure: I received this book to review. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

Would you be able to risk your life for a stranger’s?  That’s what Corrie chooses to do in Snow on the Tulips by Liz Tolsma.  The story still has me a little shaken.  My husband is a WWII buff and likes to watch the documentaries on TV.  I’ve read a few books on the subject; the story Sarah’s Key haunts me to this day.  Even though I’ve seen movies and pictures of the Nazi occupation, reading this story made everything seem so real to me.  I’m ashamed to say that I had never considered the loss of the people in the Netherlands before reading this book.  In its pages I could feel the fear in the residents of the town as they grow distrustful of their neighbors.  Even brothers and sisters guarded their secrets from their own family.  Knowing that this event took place less than a century ago makes it seem even more frightening to me.  While we might consider this to be the Information Age, it’s terrifying to know that one group of people can hold such sway against another.
