Ready to POP – great gift ideas for LABOR DAY

Disclosure: **Sony Home Video provided me with some of the materials I used in this Blog Post/Giveaway. The opinions I share are my own.* I also received this book in exchange for an honest review.

What are your go-to gift items for baby showers?  Swings, bouncers, and clothes are wonderful packages to open. The gift that I found myself using all the time, though, were the books that my friends gave us.  We read to our babies so often that I often memorized the stories!  When my second child was born, my daughter (5 years older) was a little jealous of all the new toys and gadgets we got for the baby.  A few of my friends gave her gifts as well, and it  made her feel so special. After all, Labor Day can be stressful for siblings as well as the mama. For our Labor Day giveaway, one lucky reader will win something for baby and sibling!

Ming’s Restaurant review Chinatown, Washington, DC

Chinatown in Washington, DC

It occurred to me that lately I’ve been posting mostly book reviews, neglecting to share other topics that are usually popular on this blog.  My goal is to help you save time and money in a variety of ways, so I apologize for being so single-minded lately!   One thing I’ve been meaning to share — our trip to Washington, DC.  Over the summer, our family had the chance to take a long weekend in DC.  This was my first time getting to really see the sites (I was there overnight once many years ago, but didn’t get to do much).  My kids had never been there at all.  I’ll share our trip over a series of posts.  Our first evening, we walked about 3 blocks from our room at The Embassy Suites to Chinatown. All Summer Long book review

All Summer Long by Melody Carlson has been my purse book for a couple of weeks now.  You know, the book that I carry around so I can sneak in bits while waiting in the car line or something.  Fans of mind-candy Christian fiction, especially those who also enjoy travel, will find this a real page-turner.  The plot is really predictable, but there are a few things going for All Summer Long.  [Read more…]

Queen Bees

Most of us have a cringe-worthy story to share about our adolescent years.  Whether it was in middle school, high school, at a slumber party, or a football game, there’s constant strife in social interaction during that age.  These angst-filled memories tend to fuel our Mama Bear instincts when it comes to our kids.   If you’re navigating the waters of the tween years with a girl in your life (whether you’re a mom, dad, aunt, grandma, etc), consider Queen Bees and Wannabes required reading for this course.
