A few days ago, I felt such a heavy burden on my heart for the men and women who live in war-torn countries such as Uganda and Israel.  My heart cried out for the parents in China who were forced to limit their families, choosing between one child or the other.  I’m so very fortunate to live in the United States where it might not be perfect, but at least I have freedom.  This Thanksgiving, it’s one of the things for which I’m so very thankful. However, war and corruption aren’t the only factors limiting the rights of innocent individuals.  In many parts of the world, families suffer because of the impact of human trafficking. This November, let’s work together with Family Christian to bring awareness to the cause and fight this monstrous action!

Thanksgiving Feast Without the Fuss

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Buca di Beppo® for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Our family is separated by hundreds of miles, so the holidays usually mean that someone has to travel.  Our family Thanksgivings don’t last just one day; they’re more of a weeklong celebration.  That becomes quite expensive for the hosts!!!  It’s not unusual for our family to spend more than $300 on just the Thanksgiving meal when we host a gathering.  Then we have another 3 or 4 days of feeding and hosting everyone on top of that.  Ouch!  There’s no rule that says we have to spend that much; it’s just that everyone has their own special requests and expectations.  Thanksgiving dinner has become somewhat of a religion in our culture.  Some families sensationalized the holiday so much that mothers and grandmothers slave for hours, even days, in the kitchen to prepare the meal their family expects.  No one wants to see a disappointed guest on Thanksgiving.  If you’ve become accustomed to this tradition in your family, give mom and grandma a break. Buca di Beppo is ready to do all the work — and even the dishes!  This year, give the family a Buca Style Thanksgiving Feast.  You can enjoy all of the holiday favorites by just lifting your phone.  Everyone can get what they want, and the hostess can sit back and enjoy!

Although we like to make food from scratch when we can, our schedule just doesn’t allow for it most of the time.  When we do buy pre-packaged foods, we look for wholesome, small batch products that taste like they were made with care.  It’s always nice to have a few ready-to-prepare food items for those last-minute potlucks around the holidays.  It’s also important to have a few extra gifts on hand for those moments when we need to give the hostess a little something, or we want to tuck a little something extra into a gift basket.  In October, I told you about Maggie and Mary’s soups.  They have a whole assortment of items for everyone on your holiday list!  Whether you’re stuffing a stocking or gifting to the entire department at work, this is a one-stop shop.  [Read more…]

It’s exciting when a child learns to read! That is such a milestone of education.  In my opinion, the early years of school are one of the best times to be a kid.  As children learn to read, it’s like the world opens up. Signs make sense; spelling has purpose. It’s all a really exciting time of life. What do you think? [Read more…]

Tell me about your phone case! savingsinseconds.com

For several years I’ve been using my trusty Blackberry. At the time, it was glorious to be able to check my email and surf the web.  Like any other technology, though, it soon became obsolete.  It was difficult to update the apps.  Many of the apps I wanted to use were not available.  I’ve gone through three batteries and it still wouldn’t stay charged.  This month, my husband finally convinced me to get an iPhone.   I was very excited about the new phone because we already have so many apps linked on my iTunes account, so it was a breeze to just upload them on my phone.  It’s nothing fancy (just the 8 GB) but it’s a huge upgrade for me.  After getting my phone set up, the first thing on my to-do list was check Zazzle for a new iPhone cover!

Jesus Calling -- the devotional you need. savingsinseconds.com #ad

This school year started out in a very hectic way. I moved classrooms, subject areas, and teams.  Stepping out of my comfort zone and needing to trust my colleagues to help me through was a tough move for me.  It wasn’t my choice to move but I love my school so I was willing to go where God led me.  There were days in August and September that I wasn’t sure what in the world I was doing.  Feeling overwhelmed and discouraged, my heart cried out for help.  I was so lucky to have this wonderful devotional right on my bookshelf.  Jesus Calling was a balm for my weary soul.
