Waking up to a recall — Farm Rich products

Well, here’s yet another reason to consider going with non-processed foods, I said to myself this morning.  If you haven’t seen it on the news, be aware that there is a massive recall being launched by Farm Rich products on all products produced in their Waycross, GA facility.    Right now the following products with “Best By” dates of Jan. 1, 2013 through Step. 29, 2014 are included in the recall:

  • Farm Rich Philly Cheese Steaks – all sizes
  • Farm Rich Mini Quesadillas – all sizes
  • Farm Rich Mini Pizza Slices – all sizes
  • Farm Rich Mozzarella Bites – all sizes
  • Farm Rich Mini Bacon Cheeseburgers – all sizes

Check the Farm Rich website for more information about the recall.

We eat frozen foods like this on occasion when I don’t have time to prepare a homecooked meal. In fact, my husband just warmed up a batch of their frozen meatballs a few days ago for his supper when he got home from work rather late.  Concerns about food safety is a primary reason that I’ve started to garden using organic methods.  My liver just can’t take the toxins that are found in commercially processed foods and even in fertilizers.  I feel as if I’m doing something good for my body when I grow from safe non-GMO seeds in organic soil, with natural methods of feeding my plants, and cooking from scratch when possible.  Avoiding processed foods sometimes makes a little extra work, but the payoff is worth it.   Luckily I just made a batch of Pioneer Woman meatballs to stash in the freezer for another day, so there’s one dinner we won’t worry about.  If you’re trying to stay away from processed foods, this is a great cookbook to try.

I bought The Pioneer Woman Cooks a few weeks ago when it was priced under $10 and have made several recipes from it already, much to my family’s delight.  She makes homecooked food with ingredients that I already have in the pantry.  Lots of her recipes are available for free on her website, so check it out—you’re sure to find something to please your family!  Plus she is hilarious, the kind of girl you would love to be friends with.  I know this because you hang out here and YOU are the kind of person I would want to be friends with, and so is she.  So somehow that all works out that we’re all friends, together.
