Using jars makes our house cozy

There are some things that just seem so homey and cozy to me.  Quilts, candles, and a plate of freshly baked cookies are so welcoming at the end of a long work day.  Unfortunately those things don’t always welcome me because as soon as my feet cross the threshold I’m starting on dinner, making the  kids get homework finished, and generally going crazy until bedtime.  So the things that make me feel comfy have to be already set up when I get there.    Jars of all kinds are beautiful in my eyes, so I set them all around the house for various reasons.  I mix salad dressing in them.  I grow sprouts for salad.  We even use them to store change and hold coloring pencils.  While they’re fragile and maybe not very kid-friendly, they’re a whole lot prettier than using a plastic container.

Here’s our Disney change jar.  We throw all of our spare change and dollar bills into it.  When we’re ready for our trip, we cash out the change (it’s the kids’ souvenir money) and use the dollar bills for tips.   I just wrote “Disney” on the outside, but I”d love to make it a little prettier.

Here’s my sprout jar.  It may seem obvious to some that, hey, it’s got sprouts in it.  My husband always thinks I’m fermenting something in there.  Because, you know, I do that all the time.

I need to do something to dress up these jars.  It might also make the hubs less likely to throw out  my sprouts!   Any suggestions?   I thought about using some write-on labels or ribbons.  Off to pinterest, I go!

Great idea about using the money towards the Disney trip and having jars around your house–it’s practicing being frugal and green at the same time and shows the kids you have to save up and it takes time!

  6. I recently tried canning and have since fallen in love with the look of the jars! Love your ideas!
