If you live in the Tricities….or anywhere NEAR the Tricities….and you haven’t picked up your Scott’s strawberries yet, I implore you to RUN now and head out for some! We got our first yummy berries this week and they are heavenly; I don’t know how Scott Farms does it, but their berries are so soft and sweet.  You definitely don’t need to add any sugar to these.  They are divine just the way they are.

One thing I’ve noticed is that we have to eat the berries right away for peak freshness.  The berries are perfect when we get them home, so they don’t need any extra time.  Even keeping them in the fridge tends to make ours kind of soft and overripe.  If you find that yours are a little too soft for eating, just toss them in a smoothie or something.  We like ours just rinsed and cut up—-simple and delicious.  I also like to add them to salads or cereal. It’s been a while since I made freezer jam, so we might do that before the strawberry season is over.

My very favorite recipe to use up these strawberries is based on the Blackberry Cobbler recipe from Pioneer Woman.  Instead of using blackberries, I just substitute the strawberries.  Chopping the strawberries fairly small and blotting with a clean dish towel helps the berries from getting slimy in the cobbler.  Top with a dollop of vanilla bean ice cream and it’s heaven.  Seriously, you must try it.

When I see Scott’s Strawberries, I know that summer is officially on its way.
