Somehow morning minutes are way more valuable than evening minutes at our house. Perhaps it’s the whole supply-and-demand factor. You know, we’re on a limited time crunch to get to work/school on time yet there are so many pressing demands for that time. The buzz of activity in our home as everyone prepares for the day becomes a deafening roar within those last few minutes before stepping out of the door. I’ve asked several friends how they minimize the morning chaos. Many of them explained that they set out clothes the night before (people actually do that after the first week of school?) or have a little chart for the kids to follow. They must use some Mommy Magic because at my house that type of organization doesn’t last long. When it’s time for me to find something to wear, it is so discouraging when last week’s new pants don’t fit anymore, or that favorite top has a grease spot that I missed on laundry day. This morning, I remembered this new dress from Monroe and Main and wore it for the first time.
In the moments that it took to throw it on, I decided to order more dresses like this. For one thing, it didn’t have to be ironed. It came out of the wash looking like new. Also, no slip was needed. That saved me several minutes of aggravation, since looking for a slip is a serious timesuck. The funky colors and designs made it really easy to accessorize. I found a little earring/necklace set I’d purchased somewhere for around $5 and was ready to walk out of the house. Within minutes, my daughter told me it looked great. Her compliments came so easy that I was surprised; she doesn’t normally comment on what I wear unless it might embarrass her.
When I got to work, several people mentioned how great the dress looked. It’s likely that I walked a little taller today, as a matter of fact. After the first 10 people, I started to develop a complex. Do I normally look like crud when I go to work or something? No! The dress really is just that great. People on the street even stopped me to ask where I got it. Aside from just being a beautiful print, the dress is so very comfortable. The fit is flattering without being clingy. The tie is long enough to tie to the side, which I like, and the top wasn’t too revealing when left open. I pinned it (because I work in a middle school and modesty is quite important there!) but would leave it open without worry if we were going out for dinner. The fabric is dreamy, with just enough swing to make it move but not so much that it fluttered in the wind. It’s just the perfect dress for me.
