It breaks my heart when something happens to the dog (or any animal in a story).  The Dog Who Was There by Ron Marasco provided an interesting perspective on the final days of Jesus’s life, but through a dog’s perspective.

In this story, the reader follows Barley through his life with several different owners.  It’s hard to read about his hardships, but his sweet spirit shines through each moment.  Jesus and His ministry represent some portion of the story; however, the plot really sticks with Barley.

I hate to admit that this was a pretty boring book. I struggled to finish it. Though there were several different situations that surprised me, the writing style just wasn’t interesting to me.  It would probably work pretty well as a family read along.

Thanks to Thomas Nelson for sending me a copy of this book.

Do you like stories with animals as the main character?
