Does the idea of a delicious romance, brewed amidst risk of social ruin, and based in the late 1790’s appeal to you?   If so, Starving Hearts is just your ticket!  Add this book to your Jane Austen collection, or put it beside your Downton Abbey DVDs.

Starving Hearts by Janine Mendenhall book review

The initial setting of a garden party drew me immediately to the characters.  I couldn’t help but imagine lovely Annette and her sweet cousin Sylvia. The rogue Mr. Adsley and his gentleman brother also took residence in my mind.  Starving Hearts vaguely reminded me of a Christian fairy tale; however, instead of an evil stepmother, Annette’s mother was the villain.

Let me warn you, though, the story definitely burns on a slow simmer.   Sometimes moving painfully slow, it tends to read more like a script.  This might be tedious for some readers.  Fear not.  As the desperate tangle for estates and suitable matches ensues, though, the suspense builds!  The dance of all things proper floods the pages of this book.  Approach with gloved hands and your chaperone, if you dare!
Will Annette’s search for love and acceptance replace the loss and hurt in her heart? Find out in Janine Mendenhall’s book one, Starving Hearts, of the Triangular Trade Trilogy. Since her assault, Miss Annette Chetwynd has been plagued by nightmares and worries about an arranged marriage. But she yearns to find her anonymous rescuer. Unfortunately, her health and intellect prevent it. Both repel suitors and cause Annette to doubt God’s existence, at least until He answers her prayers in an unusual way. . . .
