Now that it’s back to school season, many parents are in shopping mode.  Kids need shoes, supplies, and clothes to get ready to head back to the classroom.  If you have a daughter in high school, you’re probably starting to count your pennies because those formal dresses are quite expensive!   Plan ahead so you can save on that homecoming or prom dress.  

Raid a friend’s closet to see what might be totally free.  That’s always easy on the checkbook.  Keep in mind that even a bridesmaid dress can be transformed into a glamorous gown with the right accessories!  Add some glitzy earrings or vintage-look pieces to turn a cocktail dress into a fashion statement.

When you’re shopping at a consignment shop for Back-to-School clothes, check out the formal dresses.  Since August isn’t typically the hot month for buying formals, you might snag a great bargain!  Be sure to check the shoe section for the matching shoes in case the consignor sent them both in at the same time.

Don’t forget about online deals!  Right now you can get fabulous bargains on designer dresses at the Rent the Runway Clearance Sale.  At savings of up to 80% you can own a designer gown for a fraction of the retail price.  Since these dresses are often worn for only a few hours, this is an affordable way to have a unique dress that won’t break the bank! 

Once you hang up the formal gown, start thinking of ways to cash it in to make some green for the next good thing!
