This review and giveaway was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Febreze. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine.

You’ve probably been in a house that had a certain “smell” (smoke, pet odor, or cooking smells) that the homeowner seemed not to notice.  You might have seen the Febreze Noseblind commercials on TV and wondered if they could really be true.  I’m here to tell you that they are!   Even when the smell is offensive to someone else, the homeowner may be completely oblivious.  This phenomenon is referred to as “noseblindness” and it can happen to the best of us!   Just as one might become accustomed to the sound of airplanes flying overhead, or the sight of a certain mailbox in the yard, the scent of our own natural habitat (our house) can become undetectable because we stop noticing it.

This happened to us when we had a cat.  Our cat passed away shortly after my youngest child was born.  My mother-in-law, bless her heart, cleaned out the closet where the litter box had been contained so that I wouldn’t have to deal with it.  I had no idea how badly our basement smelled until one day, months after the closet had been cleaned, I could suddenly smell the lingering odor of the litter box.  Wow. This caught me completely off guard!  I realized that my house must have been an odor-magnet all that time, yet I didn’t notice it.
Can Febreze cut through the scent of popcorn? savingsinseconds.com #Noseblind

For this experiment, I invited my brother-in-law and sister-in-law over to the Savings in Seconds lair.  We live in a city where there is a chemical plant, and my sister-in-law has a keen sense of smell when she visits.   I knew that she’d be able to tell me if the Noseblind test worked!   After they had been here for a few minutes, we popped some popcorn and enjoyed it together.  It was movie night but the kids distracted us and we never did get the movie started. Instead, we played QuizUp and had some fun conversation.  After about an hour, I used Febreze in the living room.    I used these products to clear the air.

Febreze helped cut through the scent of popcorn! #Noseblind savingsinseconds.com

Three of the products (Air Effects, Fabric Refresher, and Candle) were the Meadows & Rain scent.  The NOTICEables warmer was the Hawaiian Aloha scent.  I merely lit the candle, spritzed the Fabric Refresher twice on the sofa blanket and pillow, and plugged in the warmer.  The final thing I did was make a couple of quick passes in the hall areas with the Air Effects.  Within just a few minutes, the scent of the popcorn was eliminated.  Instead, the house smelled fresh and clean.  My sister-in-law commented that some air fresheners bother her, but she didn’t have trouble with Febreze.  I thought that the Aloha scent was a little strong, so I ended up removing that.  It just wasn’t needed after we used the other products.  I moved the candle into the kitchen and forgot that it was there.

A little while later, the pizza we ordered had arrived.  My husband placed it on the kitchen counter and the rest of us meandered into the kitchen to eat.  My sister-in-law mentioned that the candle even overcame the scent of the garlic bread.  Once she mentioned it, I realized that I didn’t even notice the pizza smell!

I have used Febreze products in my 6th grade classroom for years.  You’d be amazed at the odors those preteen bodies can emit.  Thankfully, it doesn’t take much time to place a Febreze Set & Refresh unit right in the doorway.  Most people who enter the classroom comment on how good it smells; it’s fresh without being overpowering.  It’s also great for the classroom because it doesn’t need to be plugged in, which can be a safety concern in a school setting.   I also keep a bottle of the Air Effects in my classroom.  Several of my fellow teachers have asked to borrow it because it’s the best air freshener on our hallway!  Knowing that Febreze could tough out the middle schooler scent, I had no doubts that it could make popcorn look like child’s play.
