You might remember from my Happy Halloween giveaway that our family recently visited Ryan’s in Greeneville, TN.  I wanted to share some pictures from our experience.  Overall, we were very impressed with the meal and the service.  Ryan’s was a favorite of ours long ago but all of the local restaurants have closed.  The nearest one is about 45 minutes away so we rarely get to visit anymore.  The exterior of the restaurant was quite clean.  Additionally, the location was convenient to the shopping centers of Greeneville.

The restaurant was well-lit, clean, and quite busy.   Every serving area was filled to the brim with wonderful dishes.  The servers were extremely attentive; drinks were refreshed often and the buffet was consistently replenished.  I noticed that there were staff members on hand to wipe down the buffet so that dropped or spilled food didn’t linger long.  That’s always a plus, since buffets can get messy very quickly!

There were down-home favorites like cabbage, roasted chicken, and soups.  The carving area had several types of meat.  My daughter liked the smoked sausage.  We really enjoyed the salad bar and fruit options. The fresh pineapple was the star of my evening.  I haven’t had such delicious fresh pineapple in ages!

My husband liked the bbq ribs and my kids loved the mashed potatoes.   We absolutely melted in the honey butter that came with the yummiest hot yeast rolls ever.  EVER.  So good.

The desserts were wonderful, too.  One thing that set Ryan’s apart was that many of the cakes and pies were already set out on plates.  This tended to make the dessert area less messy because people weren’t trying to serve themselves.  However, it somehow made the dessert table look more sparse.   My kids wanted ice cream, of course, which was soft serve.  They added some delicious toppings to their dessert and were happy as could be.  I chose to get more pineapple instead.  We’ll definitely head back to Ryan’s the next time we want a good homestyle dinner without all of the hassle of cooking it ourselves.  We’ll just say that Ryan’s is cooking tonight!

What’s your favorite item to find on a buffet?
