This year we get to celebrate Easter on March 27. That means we’ll have to be on our game, because it’ll be here in less than a month!  If you’re looking for a wonderfully sweet treat to share with your kids that DOESN’T include a candy wrapper, consider The Legend of the Easter Robin.
The Legend of the Easter Robin
We’ve always enjoyed watching the robins raise their babies on our front porch (usually in my hanging plants!) so this book really hit home with me. In the story, Tressa’s visits with her grandmother become more exciting when she discovers a birdie couple nesting near the house. From nest to chicks, Tressa gets to experience the birth of spring. Isn’t that a breath of fresh air?

The story resonates with important messages of tradition and trust. Tressa learns that God is ever powerful, and that he watches over the birds just as he watches over his children. There’s a fun little craft that you can incorporate when reading this with your kids. Tressa and her grandmother make bird trinkets from blown eggs. You can also take the kids on a nature hike, looking for bird nests as you go. The Legend of the Easter Robin is sure to become a new family favorite!

Last year my children and I had the pleasure of watching a robin build her nest outside our kitchen window. She laid three eggs and then sat on them for a few weeks until finally one hatched! We watched her during every meal we ate throughout the entire process. It was really neat! For weeks she would watch her feeding the baby and listen to it peeping loudly for her when it was hungry. One day, it flew away 🙂 It was a really fun learning experience. Around the same time that this was happening, I discovered this book and read it to the children. It’s really a wonderful story. They loved it.
