The other day, the universe played a little trick on me just to see if I was paying attention. I was placing a normal Amazon order…can’t even remember what it was for. I definitely did not need whatever-it-was in a hurry. Amazon offered me $5 off any print book if I agreed to No-Rush shipping. Well, heck yeah! Ebooks are the worst, so I immediately scoured my Goodreads wishlist to see what print book I’ve been just dying for. It’s a ridiculously huge list. Here’s what I finally decided upon — Ghost Gifts by Laura Spinella.
Ghost stories are my absolute favorite, especially when it involves a medium. My mom told me that my Okinawan grandmother was a psychic, and ever since then I’ve just been fascinated by the idea of “the gift.” Most paranormal stories make me roll my eyes, but ghost stories get me hooked every time.
Ghost Gifts was so good, you guys. I loved it! There are a few weirdish sexy scenes that seemed completely unnecessary. Other than that, this was exactly the kind of ghost book I enjoy. The characters seemed so down-to-earth, and I adored the cheeky grandma character! This was kind of like reading a novel about the Long Island Medium. The main character, Aubrey, helps to pass along communications from the dead to their loved ones. It’s also an interesting mystery. I figured it out before the end, but enjoyed how the story resolved.
Since Amazon flashed me a Cyber Monday code — another $5 off books — I went ahead and bought books 2 and 3. My daughter has been wanting the second Magnus Chase book so I threw that in as well. I can’t wait to see what’s in store in the next Ghost Gifts books!
