In The Quarryman’s Bride, the main character Emmalynne finds herself in a cruel situation. Her upcoming nuptials are cancelled due to a family tradition. Her father dictates that the youngest girl in the family must remain unmarried in order to care for her parents in their old age. Thus Emmalynne finds her freedom taken from her due to a family agreement that she never had a chance to refute. Throughout the story, I marveled at her patience and perseverance in times of trial. Emmalynne served others with the heart of Jesus. It was a story that touched my heart and I hope the winner will enjoy this book as well.
In the United States, we enjoy our freedom every day yet only celebrate it on July 4. During my school’s moment of silence each day, I try to remember to thank God for the men and women whose sacrifices made it possible for me to enjoy my freedom. From the Native Americans who were forced to give up their homes to the armed forces who protect our freedom, each life is valuable. That’s why The Quarryman’s Bride is a fitting tribute to this event.
