What says “Welcome home!” to you?  For me, nothing beats a comfortable chair on a covered front porch. When we move into our new home on Friday, one of my first actions will be to set up my outdoor seating.  It’s amazing to think that after all of these months of slowly moving our many belongings into storage, filling out paperwork, and driving around for mile after mile of house showings….the day is finally here!    It’s taken many hands to get us to this point.  We’ve had help from so many wonderful friends and family to get this move underway.  I’m grateful to my sister, our realtors, the builders of our new home, and many more.  Now it’s time to think about maintenance and curb appeal of this new house.  While it might be tempting to focus on the “cosmetics” of the home’s interior, for most people the love affair begins with the exterior of the house.  When selecting your home’s exterior style, be sure to consider James Hardie as your resource for residential siding and exterior trim products!

When selecting the exterior color of your new home, be sure to think about the home’s environment.  Will it be located on a wooded lot, like the spectacular home above, or will it be on a breezy beach with the sunset as its backdrop?  I played with the Home Color Tool, and had so much fun setting up a dream home color scheme. The expert color advice found on each page offers a unique view of exterior design.  You can even save your favorite color palettes for future reference.  According to the James Hardie site, using fiber cement siding replacement offers an impressive return on investment.  When you’re spending your hard-earned dollars on home improvement, it’s always nice to know that your money was well spent.  Our new home is in a rural setting where the weather can be more extreme than our previous location.  That means that we need to consider the effects of climate on our home’s exterior.  James Hardie provides an excellent geography-based “HardieZone” reference page that helps homeowners select the appropriate materials for the conditions in which the home is built. Those of you living on the West Coast of the US know how important it is to choose wisely when it comes to building materials!

Curb appeal is very important. We were just watching Beach Flip the other night, and they were redoing the outdoors on beach houses. One went with a color like the ocean. It is important to think of surroundings whether that’s landscape or the house colors around you.

  2. Congratulations on your new home!! I hope that your move went smoothly or at least had a minimum of bumps in the road. Sometimes I wish my house didn’t have vinyl siding so I could change the color with paint.

Congrats on your new home. I’m sure it will be fun and sometimes frustrating updating things and make it “home”. I love keeping my look classic however I add a modern twist and pops of colors with accent decor.

While I’m not currently living in a house, I am in the process of painting my apartment. These tools look to be great for putting these types of color combinations together too. Thanks for the cool information!
