Disney planning – time savers and dream builders

I never thought we would be “that family.” We are practical, frugal, and homebodies. Our children think taking a picnic to the park is a big deal. So why are we going to Disney yet again? Here’s why. To us, Disney celebrates childhood. The fantasy of a fairyland is real in that magical place. The cast members go out of their way to make our children feel special every time they walk in the room. Everything is beautiful and we never see the little elves at work making it so. Our kids love every minute of the vacation and we love every smile they flash for us.

Disney dream? savingsinseconds.com

We went on our first family Disney trip when my son was a year old. The trip was miserable. We were hot (went in June…never again.) I planned everything all wrong so we ended up in different parks than our reservations. We dreaded the 12 hour drive home with a diaper-wearing baby and antsy 6 year old. Lesser parents might have given up at that point but not us. We tried it again the next year. We had a magical time. Then the next year….even better. So now we are planning our fifth trip. We have become “that family,” the ones who go to Disney world every year. It wasn’t on purpose. It’s just that we all love it there. At some point our kids will tell us that they want to do something different and that’s fine. For now, this is what they dream about. It is our pleasure that we are able to make that dream come true.

I’m planning a series of posts to help readers save time and money while having their dream vacation at Disney.  If you have any tips to share, please post them here or on Facebook.

  1. Comfort is always my first thought for trips like these. Comfy clothes and shoes. Moderate weather, etc. Otherwise, no one has a good time

  2. I love Disney as well! My parents used to take me a lot when I was younger. The last time I went was 2006 with friends, but I went to Disneyland for the first time this year 🙂 it was nice but didn’t compare to WDW in size.

  3. I can’t wait to read more. My family has not been to Disney yet. I can really use your time and money saving advice.

  4. Jenna Wood says

I live a stones throw away from Disneyland, and it is a financial hurdle just to go for one day. Can’t wait to read your series.

  5. I am honestly afraid of going there, but can’t wait to see what you have to say

  6. Wow! 5 trips! Great for you guys. I grew up near Disney and always loved our family trips. We live in Seattle but my parents are still in Florida. We definitely plan to take the kids one year soon. They’re 4 & 6 so feels like a great time.

  7. I’ve been to Epcot with my goddaughters but I’ve not seen Disney. My brother and sister in law honeymooned there.

  8. Maybe do a post on Disney books to read, the best one I ever read was “The Unofficial Guide to Disney” so many great tips that really worked.

Here’s another that worked at the time, get there an hour before park opens. You donn’t have to pay for parking as that’s when the workers are coming in and also, they entertain you at the gate. Super special.

I love Disney and got to go there many times as a child! But my kids haven’t at all! ( I have 5 kids). I would love love love to take my family there one day.

  11. Francine Anchondo says

I love disney world I have been a couple times . I always love staying on property but to save some money there are nice hotels right by the resort for cheaper . So i guess that would be my tip lol.

  12. Great post’ wish I could go. 🙂

That castle is iconic. It just puts a smile on your face…even in a photo. Your series of posts will be a big help to many with spring breaks and summer approaching. My tip is just to plan ahead. Search the internet for coupons and deals before you go.

  14. Haven’t been there in 40 years. Should go back again to see the new stuff.

  15. My friends have taken their two kids there 3 times now. They all love it.

  16. Most definitely have been shared some unconventional and interesting tips that work. Usually from friends who travel a lot
