Children naturally love stories, especially those that put the child in the story.  You’re My Little Cuddle Bug by Nicola Edwards combines the charm of a nature story with the appeal of a cut-out book.

This board book is sturdy and has chunky pages that little hands can easily turn.  Each illustration features a grown-up and child.  I liked that the rhymes are written in first person without specifying “mommy” or “daddy.”  Any adult can read this story and it will appeal to the child — whether it’s grandma, the babysitter, or an older sibling.

The rhyming messages of love and fun are short and sweet.  They’re strategically placed so that the cut-outs that surround the die-cut cuddle bugs fit as a frame around the text once the page is turned.  It’s cute and clever!

Nighttime approaches at the end of the book, so the pages are black with white text.  It’s a nice touch, and helps to promote bedtime.

Sharing a love of books with a child is such a gift.  I hope you’re reading with the children in your life!
