Anchor in the Storm

Sarah Sundin has found her niche in the WWII genre, creating heroines and hunky main men who can’t help but steal your heart. I’ve had the chance to read several of her stories; if you want to catch my reviews just click here. Out of all these titles, Anchor in the Storm has been my favorite. [Read more…]

On My Bookshelf: On Distant Shores by Sarah Sundin

The WWII era has never been my favorite period of history to read about. Maybe it’s because my favorite subject is ancient civilizations, and WWII is so far on the opposite spectrum. There’s also the issue of having Japanese heritage and, well, the Japanese weren’t really friends with the Americans during WWII. So when I pick up a book with a WWII setting, there’s always a bit of baggage that comes along with my attention. I expected to feel that way again with this book that I received from Litfuse. That all dissipated when I read On Distant Shores by Sarah Sundin. I enjoyed the historical references that were included in this book. Some of the missions described real=life situations and certainly the issues faced by these honorable men and women were accurately depicted. Additionally, the author incorporated much research and real heroes’ names as some of the characters as a tribute to those who fought in the war. I enjoyed reading about the locations the characters visited. The descriptions of the characters’ surroundings were so realistic that I could really visualize the story. Those details made this book rather special.

Through Waters Deep, Glory Days, and Hiding Places book reviews

Disclosure: I received these books to review. Post contains affiliate links; opinions shared are mine.

Sorry for the lack of new posts to read over the last week. We recently moved (yay!) but don’t have internet access yet (boo!) My phone’s data plan is hosting today’s wifi access, many thanks to the great customer service at Verizon for helping me set it up!   Taking a break from unpacking is made sweeter with some fun books to read. Every once in a while, I reward myself for the hard work by indulging in a wonderful piece of fiction. If you’re wondering what to read, check out these titles. Let’s start with Through Waters Deep.

Through Waters Deep - by Sarah Sundin
Through Waters Deep by Sarah Sundin has the beautiful appeal of the WWII dramas she’s published in the past.  It has a refreshing, modern beat that bears the unexpected. It slightly reminds me of the story Something Borrowed (Emily Giffin).  [Read more…]

If you walk into a craft store or even a large department store, you’re likely to see Christmas items already even though Halloween isn’t even here yet.   Yesterday I ordered some Christmas plates and have even considered pulling out the decorations to put up in November.  Yes, the bug bites me hard this time of year! I’m also reading some Christmas themed books.  I realized what a great gift these would make for a secret pal!  Many people like to read holiday books; these are sure to bring a smile to your secret pal or secret Santa this year!  [Read more…]

Exhausted doesn’t even cover it

It’s the first weekend after the first week back to school. Let’s just say that exhaustion doesn’t even cover it. Last night (and several nights this week) I hit the pillow at 8:00 PM or before. When the kids go back to school, I’ve already been back in the building for a week. For several years now our school system has invited students back on the very first Monday of August. Hard to believe since we used to go back in mid-August! It’s nice to get out in May, though, so my complaints are quite the under-my-breath type.

My feet aren’t used to being in career shoes all day anymore. They’ve become accustomed to flip-flops or even going bare. And my back? Bending over desks all day have me walking like osteoporosis hit early. I’m also teaching a new subject area (Language Arts!!! Hooray for books!) and it’s been a whirlwind of learning for me as well as the students. [Read more…]
