Love’s Fortune by Laura Frantz — book review
Disclosure: I received this book to review. The post contains affiliate links; opinions shared here are 100% mine.
Growing up in Kentucky was a far cry from the northern mountains of Pennsylvania. In Love’s Fortune, Wren Ballantyne experienced a complete shift in reality when she travels from her home in KY to her grandfather’s mansion in PA. The 1850’s novel is wrought with peril and mystery. It took me quite a while to figure out what was going on. I haven’t read any other books in this series so I was a bit lost at first. Soon, however, it became clear that the Ballantynes were considered royalty much as the Edwardian heroines I’m so fond of reading. In Wren’s new world, she was expected to marry for the connections, not for love. [Read more…]
Banned Book Giveaway Hop featuring Brave Girls Bible Stories
Disclosure: I received a copy of Brave Girls. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.
When I was growing up, I loved to hear stories about women who did extraordinary things! It was hard for me to understand (at that age) how cultural differences can impact the freedom a woman has. In today’s news, we get to celebrate brave girls like Malala who fought for her right to attend school, or how Oprah Winfrey overcame a childhood of abuse and grew up to impact so many lives. What about the women of the Bible who dared to risk it all for their faith? What about the times when the Bible was a banned book? In this giveaway, we’ll get to celebrate the freedom to read the Bible without censor and celebrate brave girls at the same time! Thanks to Tommy Nelson, one lucky reader will win a hardcover copy of the Brave Girls Bible Stories. [Read more…]
Save yourself a headache – label the fall clothes!
Disclosure: I will receive product samples. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.
There’s a chill in the air that wasn’t there before. Could it be? Is fall really starting? Here in Northeast Tennessee we usually have one good warm week before the cold sticks, but I think we’re heading into cooler weather. I was so grateful for my friend Melissa who gave my son a BUNCH of fall clothes! He’s pretty much set with jeans, long-sleeve shirts, and even a Spiderman coat and snowboots for this year. Thanks, M!!! My daughter needed some new jeans and tops but taking her shopping is about as appealing as pulling teeth. As I mentioned earlier this week, she has very distinct style requirements. It’s unfortunate that area stores don’t cater to her whims. I took her into Kohl’s last night with the intention of getting a couple of dresses for church. We came out with 4 pairs of jeggings, some tops, and a few hoodies. Dresses? Nope. Didn’t even try one on. Sigh.
Now that the hoodies are making an appearance, it’s essential to label EVERYTHING before it leaves the house. [Read more…]

Disclosure: This prize is sponsored by SheSpeaks/Crest. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.
There are lots of loves in my life. Aside from people (my husband, kids, family, and friends) books top the list. Food would be a close second! Ice cream? Snow cones? Chilled fruit? No, no, and no. Until now, those cold foods hurt my teeth and I avoided them even though they are delicious. If you’re the same way, check out my post about the new Sensi-Stop strips from Crest. The strip goes on for 10 minutes and prevents pain for up to one month! Thanks to Crest, one lucky Savings in Seconds reader will receive a $25 Walmart gift card. Heaven Touching Earth – book review
Disclosure: I received this book to review from Bethany House. The post contains affiliate links; the opinions shared here are 100% mine.
Those who wonder why miracles don’t happen anymore, as they did in biblical days, just aren’t looking hard enough. Just as I believe that Satan can impact our lives and entice us to sin, I also believe that angels are here on Earth to guide us through life. Reading Heaven Touching Earth by James Stuart Bell was like light dawning on a cloudy day! The stories in this compilation are uplifting and inspiring. Each story is short enough to read in between sips of coffee (4-6 pages each). You can squeeze that into a busy morning, can’t you? [Read more…]
