No more peel-your-food-off-the-top pans for me

My kids love to eat scrambled eggs any time of day. We often have breakfast-for-supper because it’s a quick meal that they’ll definitely enjoy. The cleanup is usually minimal with that meal, except for the egg pan. I really despise cleaning the egg pan. Inevitably I let the eggs sit a bit too long on the pan and it gets completely baked on like a souffle. The pan has to be soaked and then it just looks disgusting when all the egg gunk is finally soft enough to scrape off the bottom of the pan. When I received the Ozeri pan to review, I wasn’t sure if the nonstick surface would be enough to keep me from the dreaded egg bake.

Spectacular jewelry makes a fall wardrobe into a fall-in-love wardrobe

Disclosure: This post is brought to you by Kranich’s.  The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

Since my clothing size has expanded quite a bit since my kids came along, I’m not really thrilled with the idea of receiving clothes as gifts.  Mostly that’s because I don’t want evidence of how much weight I’ve gained.  Also, I keep saying I’ll lose the weight so let’s not spend money on clothes.  The problem is, my first “baby” is nine years old and my second one is four years old.  When the baby weight can now walk and talk on his own, it’s time to give up that game, don’t you think?  The good thing is, a beautiful necklace or ring always fits.   My ring size is still in the single digits, too, so that’s something to smile about.  Spectacular jewelry makes a fall wardrobe into something special.  Even a plain crewneck tee can be dressed up with the right pendant, you know?   For convenience and dollar signs, it’s become a habit for me to shop online for fabulous jewelry.   [Read more…]

The right roof can make a big difference in building quality

Disclosure: This post is brought to you by Paradigm Roofing.  The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

In my experience, the quality and beauty of one’s surroundings can make a huge impact on the morale of its employees or residents.  Whether it’s a commercial building or a residential home, the construction and materials can make a significant impact upon the way of life in that structure.  During the years of my employment I’ve had the good fortune to work in several beautiful and historic buildings.   One thing that has been an obvious weak point in both buildings is the roof.   By installing the right roof, one can help to protect the investment of a costly edifice.  In my case, I teach in a city school and want to have a safe, clean environment for my students.  It’s important to maintain the integrity of these schools in which students work and play.   When searching for the right expert to help maintain one’s roof, contact the professionals at a business such as Paradigm Roofing.  It’s important to do your research if you’re looking for standing seam roofing  or other upgrades to offer maintenance-free beauty to your home.   [Read more…]

On My Bookshelf: Home to Heather Creek by Kathleen Bauer

I was excited to participate in the book tour for the new Home to Heather Creek series!  Guideposts can always be depended upon to provide uplifting reading material.  I knew this series could be only the best.  When I received the first two books (Before the Dawn and Sweet September) I just couldn’t wait to start reading.

To say that the story drew me in is such an understatement.  My heart literally hurt within the first few chapters.  Three children are left in the wake of tragedy of their mother’s death.  They move across the country to their mom’s homestead to live with grandparents who are virtually strangers.  It broke my heart to think of such a situation.  As a mom, it’s one of my greatest fears to think that my children might be left without me someday.  Even as I type these words, I can’t resist holding my son on my lap.   [Read more…]

On My Bookshelf: Fired Up by Mary Connealy

If you’re a fan of clean, Christian romance books, Fired Up would be a good choice for you.  It’s the second book in the Trouble In Texas series.  I received this book to review for a book tour and sat down to enjoy it on this calm Friday evening.  Fired Up was as a decent historical romance and I’ll enjoy passing this on to my mother-in-law who enjoys that type of literature.   The main character, Glynna, finds herself widowed for a second time.  She’s the mother of two children and needs to find a way to take care of them without depending on a man again. Big spoiler alert—DO NOT read the summary on the back of the book because it really gives away several of the main problems that arise for the characters.  Don’t you hate when that happens?  I do.  The dialogue and character interaction was interesting enough, if a bit too predictable.   I enjoyed the teenage angst represented by Glynna’s son Paul.  For me, he seemed to be the only character who was really genuine throughout the book.  Although the romance factor was probably the purpose of the book, I would have preferred to see the story focus on getting Glynna back on her feet on her own.  Thrusting her back into a third romance within the shadow of her husband’s death seemed rushed to me.  “Dare” seemed to be too edgy name for an otherwise normal kind of guy.  All in all, the book was a little bit vanilla for me.   The romance part isn’t the reason I pick up most books; I enjoy it as a sideline but was really rooting for Glynna to be a strong single mom this time around.   I’d love to see some true sparks in the next book, with some really unexpected twists! There once was a girl who had a candy crush

There once was a girl who never got on Facebook. Then the girl’s friends said, ooooh try the games. You must try the games. They are really fun. Secretly the girl thought that playing the games seemed kind of silly. After all, aren’t there more productive things to do with her already limited free time? But to humor her friends, the girl tried the games. The girl got started and couldn’t stop playing Candy Crush. It was almost like that time the girl started playing solitaire on the computer and couldn’t stop until she won. Except this was worse.

Getting the fall clothes ready — a task made easier

  Lovable Labels

Getting the fall clothes ready is a task that just got a little easier.  We typically wait to buy our kids new hoodies, jeans, and other cool-weather clothing.  Instead of purchasing those items at the beginning of the new school year, we wait until the temperatures fall.  This week that day has come.  My son spent the morning in his new Kidorable dino raincoat and twirling his umbrella.  Thankfully it was easy to stick a label on these items and let him run around.  This sale at Lovable Labels makes it easier than ever to label your kids’ winter clothes.
