Recently I posted a question on Facebook about prom dresses.  The responses indicated that most readers look for a prom dress that accentuates the eyes.  Also, long dresses seemed to win out over short dresses.  This led me to look for some new ideas in terms of spring formalwear, since the original colors I chose were definitely not in the “match your eyes” category. Hot pink, cream, and other colors are pretty but it seems like many people prefer blue or maybe even green.  So the search is still out for the perfect prom dress!   Your responses are interesting to me since most of the gowns that appear on the first page of my search at JJsHouse are long dresses (check) but not in “natural” eye colors.

I also did a search for celebrity styles and liked that some of the dresses were inspired by those worn by the stars at Golden Globes, the Grammy Awards, and the Oscars. That’s always fun, right?  Do teens think about those things when searching for the perfect dress for a formal?  When I saw the dresses that showed up in my search, I immediately thought of specific stars. For example, the long gowns with beautiful yet simple straps remind me of Taylor Swift. She’s always dressed so classy!  The dresses that show a lot in the cleavage area bring to mind J.Lo.  Whatever dress you choose, it’s important to dress your best this spring if you’re heading out to the prom.  It seems that most readers are suggesting colors that work with your skin tone, eyes, and your body shape.  A no-brainer, right?  Sometimes that’s easier said than done.  Do these guidelines apply to every dress that you choose for spring, whether it’s for prom or running to Target? It seems like a good rule of thumb to follow.

The mermaid style dress seems to be very popular online as well.  I noticed that many of the dresses in that style received high ratings from users.  Now, when I was a senior in high school I probably had the hips for a dress like that.  Unfortunately at 5’2″ I needed the stiletto heels to make the dress work, otherwise the hem would ride the ground like a train.  Today’s girls have so many options for the perfect prom dress.  It makes me want to go back in time and have my own prom again!

The best dresses are ones that fit you…body, color, and style. You have to feel good in the dress and about the dress. For prom…and many formal situations…a second opinion is great. Shopping with a friend or family member can add a fun, more relaxed atmosphere.
