On a recent camping trip at Davy Crockett State Park in Greeneville, TN, our family finally stopped at a restaurant we’ve wanted to try for months. The Black Olive Italian Restaurant is hidden from the main road, but there’s a roadside sign beckoning hungry travelers. Once you find the parking lot, follow your nose to some delicious dishes!
We found The Black Olive a month ago, and have been back at least 5 times since. It’s our new family favorite. Every menu item I’ve tried has been delicious. Here are some of the best!
The Black Olive – Chicken Fettucine Alfredo
This creamy, hearty sauce is the perfect comfort food. My son says it’s the best fettucine alfredo he’s ever eaten (his former favorite came from The Cheesecake Factory). The Black Olive slices the chicken very thin, which is the way I like it. I hate chunky chicken in meals like this! The last time I ordered this, they added vegetables for me. It was wonderful! The Black Olive has always been very accommodating to any menu requests we’ve made. I also noticed on the menu that they have gluten-free pasta options.
The Black Olive – Personal Pizza
My husband always orders a pizza. He tries it with different toppings each time, and it never goes to waste. He says the crust is great, and he likes that it’s thoroughly layered with toppings. Always a hit.
The Black Olive – Philly Cheesesteak
My daughter isn’t a pasta eater, so she was apprehensive when we first drove up to The Black Olive. I had to convince her to look over the menu and try something. She settled on the Philly cheesesteak and orders it every time! She adds onions and mushrooms to hers. It comes with a generous serving of crispy chips. My husband, a PA native, makes the most fantastic cheesesteak sandwiches, so we’re spoiled in that department. The fact that these stand up to comparison really says something!
The Black Olive – Chicken Penne Gorgonzola
If you’re a fan of creamy alfredo sauce, try the Chicken Penne Gorgonzola. This has a rich, grown-up flavor that takes alfredo to a whole new level. I love the mushrooms!
I’ve also tried these dishes, but did not take photos….too busy eating.
- Eggplant Parmesan – truly the best version I’ve ever had. The eggplant is hearty without being too heavy, and the sauce is mouthwatering. I’d order it every time, but there are so many other meals to try!!
- Artichoke Angel Hair – this has a light flavorful sauce. It tastes like spring! I love the addition of capers.
The Black Olive – chocolate cake
I wish I could say I’ve tried all the desserts, but so far all I’ve sampled is their chocolate cake. It’s such a generous slice, piled high with layers of delicious chocolate sponge cake. The delicate buttercream frosting tastes homemade. Paired with cold milk, this made the most delightful nighttime snack!
