If your iOS loving gamer got a new i-device for Christmas, consider this free download of Space Settlers for some cool graphics fun.  Space Settlers features “mecha combat and real-time strategy.”  The game is really easy to play by just following the prompts.  At the beginning of the story, we are told that the God particle can be proven to date back to millions of years ago.  The Time Gate has been held open for humans.

The colors and graphics are very sharp on the screen.  By following the exclamation point in the right sidebar, players are directed toward what needs to be accomplished.  Whether it’s building a base or harvesting energy, everything is prompted for you.  I am new to this type of gaming and had no trouble following the directions.

Also, players can join teams.  I observed the dialogue between players and everyone seemed to be really friendly toward each other, albeit wary of accepting new players who had no resources to offer.   Thus it’s worth it for gamers to spend a few minutes developing a stash of resources before trying to join a team.  As the game progresses, it becomes a lot more challenging.  Unfortunately my skills aren’t quite honed enough to survive such a firefight; however, I can tell that this would be a game that players would turn to time and again.  There are lots of options for purchasing additional materials as well.

Space Settlers is compatible with the following devices:  iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and optimized for iPone 5. The app requires iOS 4.3 or later.   I played on an iPad and it had no hesitation moving from screen to screen.  My kids wanted to play this game along with me, making for some fun family time.  Games like this require some reading, so it was a good deal of reading practice for my daughter since she had to read the information and comprehend what was being said.  Overall, it was fun to play Space Settlers!
