Full of glossy full-color pages, this is a high-interest book that kids won’t be able to resist. Each story is fascinating! The photos are vivid and sometimes a little creepy. Take care when reading with younger children or those who are easily squeamish. I would also advise caution with children who are especially sensitive about animals, since some of the pictures show animals that have been harmed and survived. I know a few students who would really be bothered by this.
My son is an avid non-fiction reader. He loves to learn weird facts. This book is right up his alley! I can’t wait to show it to him. Even our cat wanted to take a peek.
Beyond the shocking nature of some of the information, 100 Best Bions also opens discussion opportunities regarding world culture. For example, many children today have never heard of the Chinese foot binding tradition. Presented in a respectful, honest manner, this information can lead to further research and a deeper appreciation for world history.
