The words I never thought I’d say have been uttered from my lips.

“I’ll give you something to cry about.”  “You’re older, you should know better.”  “I don’t care who started it; I’m ENDING it.”   I hated hearing my mom say these things, yet they’ve become part of my vocabulary.  In the spirit of trying to be a good parent and raising good children, some roadblocks are bound to turn up. Take heart, parents. The saying, “The days are long but the years are short” ring true.  If parenthood has you stumped on occasion, why not give the book Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles a try?

In church, I’m always struck by the common sense found in sermons that focus on scripture.  God’s word serves as a guide in other areas of life, so it stands to reason that it would be a guide to parenting, too. Likewise, Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles takes a new approach.  Instead of focusing on child development and building self-esteem in kids,  this book aims at the heart of the parents’ faith.  The gift of grace is extended to all of us through Christ.  Author Paul David Tripp explains how we, as parents, model that grace to our children through Christian parenting.

Tripp develops the theme of guidance throughout this book. Just as we use the Bible as a guide, we can become spiritual guides for our children.  That’s a refreshing, liberating view that makes me feel better as I enter this phase of motherhood. My children are old enough to make autonomous decisions regarding their own personal walks with God.  I’m learning how to nurture that gift of the Holy Spirit within my children. This isn’t a book that has to be fully incorporated to see the effects. You can try one or two strategies at a time while you change your mindset. For me, the great part about this approach is that we all get so much more than a happy family out of it.

One lucky reader will receive a copy of Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles. The giveaway is open to US/CAN readers ages 18+. Void where prohibited by law.  Please note: Only one entrant per mailing address, per giveaway.  If you have won a prize from our sponsor Propeller /FlyBy Promotions in the last 30 days, you are not eligible to win.  Or if you have won the same prize on another blog, you are not eligible to win it again.  Winner is subject to eligibility verification.
