Every box contains at least one really fantastic item that I end up loving — and usually more than one. This month, my must-have was the treStiQue mini eyeliner/shadow crayon. I want it in every color!! Birchbox has much more than cosmetics, too. Hair care, jewelry, fragrance, and accessories can be found on their site. Since you can customize your profile, it’s easy to specify the type of box you’d like to receive. Birchbox recently started sending me an email to allow me to choose one or more samples in my box. If something arrives that I won’t use, I just pass it along to a friend or two. I’ve also participated in sample swaps with friends.
When it’s time to reorder my favorite products, I have a few ways to save. I earn Birchbox credits by reviewing my monthly box. Each review earns 10 points, which adds up quickly! After using the discount codes that are so easy to find online, and stacking with my Birchbox points, I usually get away with spending half of the retail price on my cosmetics and skincare. It’s also a big timesaver, since I don’t have to go to the store and purchase the items. Finally, the bonus samples make it totally worthwhile to place the order rather than going to a brick-and-mortar store (which doesn’t give me free samples.) Almost all of my favorite cosmetic items were initially samples, so I know this process works for me.

Birchbox makes a wonderful gift, too. I’ve purchased subscriptions for many friends and family members, who always get excited about the prospect of happy mail. The subscriptions start at just $30, which is a great price point for most gifts. The samples are wrapped in a sheet of pretty tissue paper, which adds to the glam. I love the decorative boxes, and save them for organizing my desk or junk drawer.
