Hamilton gifts when show tickets aren’t in the budget

I’m not even sure where my teen first heard about Hamilton, but at some point last year, she started singing Broadway tunes. She was studying the American Revolution in 8th grade, so the new obsession translated into a love for history. Taking her to see the show in NYC is on my life list because I know how much she will enjoy it. We live far away from New York, though, so the cost is quite prohibitive. It’s not as if we can just jump in the car and drive up when we find a good deal on Hamilton tickets! So, we had to improvise.
Join the revolution
The original Alexander Hamilton book by Ron Chernow is a good place to start! It inspired the musical. A few of my students read the book this year, and while it was a little on the advanced side for a 6th grade reader, it’s always heartening to see kids read non-fiction by choice. The book by Lin-Manuel Miranda is also a keepsake for die-hard fans. Again, I’m a big proponent of encouraging students to read non-fiction, and this book is a terrific example of such a piece.
I also bought my daughter this book as a joke. She read it with the intention of defending Hamilton at all costs. (There’s currently a coupon for the book on Amazon.)
Been there, got the Hamilton shirt too
From what little I know of Alexander Hamilton, he probably would have been the first to wear a t-shirt with his own silhouette. Snag a couple of Hamilton shirts for the birthday girl!
