It’s about that time….my hands are longing to start some seeds.  I’m ready to see the first daffodils poke out of the ground to announce spring.  I’ve already started reading an abundance of gardening info, suggesting much more than I can easily accomplish in one season.   Sometimes it’s fun just to read about other people’s gardening adventures.  That’s where Greenwoman magazine comes in.

I keep my Greenwoman magazine with my seed catalogs.  Whenever I pull them out to pine over some pretty bulbs or need a pick-me-up, I read one of the stories.  I love the homespun look of the magazine.  There is a classic feel to it, right down to the paper it’s printed on.  But more than that, the stories have such a familiar feel.  It’s almost like talking with a friend, listening to a story from days gone by.   The magazine is a one-woman operation which is amazing to me.  It’s such a unique publication.  The stories are really different and other-worldly.  I would never have expected such diversity in one magazine, even from looking at the cover.  If you are into funky fun perspectives, you’ll love Greenwoman.

Poetry, illustrations, and a story or two will fill your weary winter days with some measure of sunshine. Until you can get your hands in the dirt, enjoy the stories about gardening.  You’ll be tempted to write down some of your own!

Some of the stories were really odd, such as the one about the lady who makes tea from plants that grew from her chin hairs.   As much as I tried to get into that one, I just couldn’t stop wrinkling my nose.  Still, there was something to take away from even that one.  Greenwoman magazine celebrates thinking outside of the box, taking the beauty of working in soil and making it part of life.    Gardens of all sizes tie us together…..we are sharing the same earth, farming from the same sun, welcoming the same rain.  Those things alone bind us together as gardeners.
