I basically want coverups for everything

Maybe it’s my age. It could also be my exhaustion level. Whatever the reason, I basically want coverups for everything.  I’m not talking about swimsuit coverups, although there’s a time and place for that in my life, too.  I mean that the imperfections in my home and on my body are not getting any better, so I’d like to just toss a sheet over them and move on.  For example, there is a spot in the dining room from the time my son decided to smear his Nutella-encrusted hands on the wall. I cleaned the worst of it off but until we repaint the room, it’s going to look like a big poo stain. Gross. So I covered it up with a Christmas banner. Don’t tell anybody. That’s the way things get done (or not) around here these days.

Along those same lines, I’ve been too busy to get my nails done. Ha, I say that like I go to the spa all the time. What I really mean is, I’ve been saying for at least six months, “I’d like to get my nails done.” It’s probably not going to happen anytime soon, so I’ve been doing my own manicures at home. I’m no expert so it doesn’t look amazing like the Pinterest girls do. Bear with me! I got these four gorgeous Mirror Metallics shades from SinfulColors that are perfect for the holidays. When these shades are on my nails, I feel like I really did splurge on a manicure. I received four bottles of polish: Red Eye, Gold Medal, Triple Platinum, and Simply Silver. Upon first impression I thought the red would be my favorite (because it usually is). I tried every shade, as you can see. It turns out that the Triple Platinum is my fave. This collection is available at Walgreens for only $1.99 each.   With only one coat, the shades are very sheer and pretty.  I ended up doing two coats of Triple Platinum on each finger after taking this picture.  You can layer it on stronger for a deeper shade.  I love having that control over my nail color.  It’s essential to do a top coat with this polish, just so you know.  My nails looked great for two days but after that they started to fade away on the tips.  The shade is still strong and I like the way that the glitter is incorporated throughout the polish, rather than having tiny little shiny squares all over my nails.  For Christmas Day, I think I’ll try the Gold Medal and then save the Simply Silver for New Years.  We’ll see if I can get that organized!!  You can follow SinfulColors on Facebook and on Twitter (@SinfulColors_NP).

On the way to the van yesterday my son asked, “Mom, why do you have spots on your face?”  There were so many thoughts that went through my mind at that point.  Was he talking about freckles?  Did he notice my chicken pox scars?  Am I starting to have acne again?!  Then I realized with a sinking feeling that maybe some age spots are starting to show.  Don’t tsk at me, it seemed like a reasonable conclusion!!!   Looks like it’s a good thing that I have Ageless Derma Camoufleur Concealer to cover up my facial imperfections.  Although you might think I will need a much bigger container than this little pot of gold, just a little bit covers surprisingly well.  I even used a bit of it under my eyes when I had some dark circles.  The shade I ended up getting was just a tiny bit  on the light side for me, so it served well as an eye brightener.  It will be perfect for my skin as we head into winter because my skin tends to lighten up as I lose my summer tan. This formula is extremely thick; I didn’t like using my finger to apply it because it was hard to really blend in.  If I were going to use this on a regular basis, I’d definitely invest in a good applicator brush.  The review actually suggested that the product be applied with recommended brushes; the problem was, I didn’t have them!   On the plus side, this is the perfect cosmetic coverup for reddish blemishes.  It helps to neutralize that redness and is thick enough to last a while.  I used my regular BB Cream and mineral powder foundation over this concealer and didn’t have to reapply all day.

In just a few short weeks it will be time to celebrate Christmas with my family.  It’s such a wonderful moment in the year that I just can’t waste time worrying about the little things in life.  Thank goodness I have some coverups to smooth things over for me!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

It would be nice if we had a coverup/eraser for whatever we wanted. Simply layer on another coat of paint or wave the magic wand. Love your sense of humor and innovative style. That would be me…just put a Christmas banner over it. Now, the room is festive! In the end, if we could change anything or cover up everything, it wouldn’t be good. I know we need to embrace our imperfections and aging, but it’s hard to do. Continue to smile and paint on more polish. You deserve the manicure!

  2. I think I need that concealer! I don’t wear much makeup, none if I’m at home all day, BB cream for playdates and perhaps actual foundation for date nights. I think that concealer would be great for me!

I have to use mineral concealer plus BB Cream, because I have adult acne and hyperpigmenation on my cheeks. 🙁 It makes me sad. I just started some prescription acne treatments, so hopefully I’ll finally see some improvement!

    • Aw Elisebet, I’m sorry about the acne. I used to be an Arbonne consultant and worked with many clients who had issues with adult acne. I hope your treatments give you some relief!

  4. Those nail colors are lovely! I think I might pick some up, as I’m way overdue for a manicure myself. As for covering up my carpet…well… we’re in a rental, so it will get replaced someday. That’s all I’ve got.

    • I always covered up my carpet spots with furniture. Even if it was in the middle of the room….I found an ottoman or something. We have hardwood now.

  5. Very nice. I hope that works for you.
