One of my favorite things to look for at summer yard sales is vintage books.  My kids have been introduced to some of my childhood favorites, including Frog & Toad, Little Bear, and Where the Wild Things Are.  Charlie the Tramp was new to me this year, but it really reminds me of those wonderful old books I loved as a child.

The story is as sweet as you’d expect.  The illustrations are plainly sketched which just adds to the charm.  In classic Russell Hoban style, the beautiful relationship between parent and child is displayed throughout the plot.

Consider gifting this to a new parent.  Even better, what about designing a nursery theme around classics like Charlie the Tramp?  I think it would be a masterpiece, just like this book!
