I’m inspired by reading stories of amazing faith.  Bonnie Floyd shares her experiences in Bound to a Promise and several times I marveled at her unwavering faith that God worked through her parents’ brutal murders.  Let’s start from the beginning, shall we?

Bound to a Promise begins with the author’s childhood memories.  It seems to be the completely normal yet dysfunctional family.  The parents split, the child is shuffled between parents, and life goes on.  Bonnie muses about the feelings she experienced when her parents each found a significant other.  I couldn’t help but share her resentment toward her stepmom; after all, the woman ran away with Bonnie’s dad and they left the country!  Young Bonnie might have carried that resentment into adulthood, but she turned over those feelings of negativity when she gave her heart to God.  From that point forward, she demonstrated the heart of Jesus by loving the people in her life.   It’s clear that Bonnie’s heart really did grow three sizes.  She nurtured relationships with her broken family, her add-on family via stepparents and siblings, and then her husband’s family.  When Bonnie finds out that her dad and stepmom were murdered in Antigua, she sets out on a mission that leads her to the ultimate test of her faith.

The story Bonnie shares really does come across as a story.  The book carries a conversational tone that prompted me to tune out a time or two.  It’s an easy read yet the dialogue gets rather boggy in some spots.  I found that by the end of the book, which was really the biggest testimony to Bonnie’s faith, I was skimming the pages to find the end.  Currently the price for the Kindle version of Bound to a Promise is $21.99.  That seems quite expensive to me.  However, this book truly has merit as a story of forgiveness and faith.  Bonnie’s ability to find God’s hand in all things around her is remarkable.  Surely any reader would grant her that credit.  For those who seek a guest speaker for women’s retreats or something similar would find a gold mine in Bonnie Floyd!  The book itself is really a memoir of Bonnie’s experiences.  One fascinating factor is the multimedia approach found throughout its pages.  By snapping a QR code, readers can more deeply explore the areas mentioned in the book. I’ve seen that feature in many children’s books but this is the first time I’ve noticed it in an adult book.
