You want to meet a REAL woman? Check out Proverbs 31.

That’s the reference Lisa Troyer and Dawn Yoder used for their book about Real Women Leading. I was familiar with that chapter in the Bible because my prayer partner and I memorized it in college. We prayed for our future husbands using that scripture. Never before did I feel connected to that Proverbs woman in such an close way, though. While reading this book, the Proverbs woman and I were tight! We were girlfriends! She became someone that I could get a pedicure with. More importantly, I became more like her. Thrifty and wordy I may be, but domestic I am not.  It’s kind of ironic because my mom has been a housekeeper by trade for as long as I can remember.   Her house was immaculate and she could squeeze a nickel ’til it cried.  On the other hand, my house is in a constant state of disaster and we are still paying off credit cards from years of debt.  How did I come from that woman’s womb?  Real Women Leading helped me to embrace my own talents and not hold myself to being my mother.  I don’t even have to expect the perfection of the Proverbs woman.  Instead, I can strive to be the best ME I can be!

Real Women Leading sets out a very clear path for women to follow. While it does center around biblical teachings, it’s a practical book for women of any background.  By relating situations to real people, the book offers insight and advice that can be easily followed.  Some of the descriptors really hit home for me.  For example, the emphasis on organization went straight to my heart.  How many minutes have I wasted trying to find a bank statement or receipt?  By taking a few minutes to organize those important papers, I could save myself a huge amount of time.  Also, the recommendations for prioritizing were key reminders that I can’t always say “Yes” without a plan of action.

Ultimately, this book gave me a lot to think about.  I’m light years away from being the Proverbs woman, but I’m working on the best ways to make the most with what I’ve got!

I am going to have to read this section of the Bible again. I love how inspired you were by it, how you have learned to strive to be the best you you can be. That really is what God wants from us.
