A Stitch and a Prayer - savingsinseconds.com

The Quilts of Love series has become one of my favorites.  The books are small, short enough to finish in one day, yet the stories are packed with a punch.  A Stitch and a Prayer has this beautiful log cabin on the front of it which just beckons to my heart.  Is the book anything like Bon Jovi’s song about living on a prayer?  Uh, no.  But I think of it every time I read the title.  I received this book to review. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

A Stitch and a Prayer is all about homespun goodness.  Old-fashioned things like lace and hankerchief using, memories of a bygone summers.  In this story, a newlywed couple is separated just at the time when they should be the happiest.  They were expecting their first child!  Young Florence learns the hard way that the wedding is not the hardest part of the marriage. The quilt in this book carries a really personal story.  It’s a tangible reminder of Florence’s strength and growth as a wife.   Her husband Will is a phantom character throughout the book, appearing in only parts of it.  The depth of Florence’s faith and love are tested throughout their separation.  It made me wonder how I would have handled such a situation in the early years of my marriage.  Actually, ever.  I dislike being separated from my husband when he travels for work; how would I handle an uncertainty like this, especially when expecting a baby?!  Not very well, to be sure.  God’s love and comfort are the vessels that carry Florence through the tough times.  This book carries a strong message about hearing God’s voice and being ready to obey.
