We didn’t get to head to the beach this summer, but a much-needed weekend getaway did make it on our calendar!  Usually, I like stories that are clean, with interesting characters and unexpected endings.  For a beach read, however, I tend to select books that have an undoubtedly romantic charm, with predictability and a sigh-worthy ending.  A Bride At Last was just the ticket for the task.

You might not realize how much things have changed since paternity testing became available, but in A Bride At Last we realize that some problems have been around forever. Kate Dawson is a spunky young woman who got a little caught up in kindness; Silas Jonesey is a crusty bachelor who finds himself entangled in more than he bargained for when trying to set things right.  For the record, let me say how much I love the name Silas!!  In this story, we have the standard scoundrel (Richard) and town busybody (too many to name.)  The person who ultimately pulled my heartstrings was young Anthony, who was caught in the middle of so many adult dilemmas.  Even though he caused more than his own fair share of difficulties, Anthony really tried to be a problem solver. The back-and-forth between Kate and Silas became tiring by the middle of the book, and almost ridiculous near the end.  I couldn’t decide if they were just shallow, or completely incompetent when it comes to decision making.  In the end, though, A Bride at Last was satisfaction guaranteed.  Author Melissa Jagears sets the stage for the next saga in the story with Anthony’s final adventure. Although she drove me crazy sometimes, I couldn’t help but admire Kate for her overwhelming kindness in Anthony’s life.

I had to stay late at work one night and I felt terrible that I would make my carpool wait late for me. One of my coworkers offered to loan me her car and have her husband pick her up from work so that I could stay late without making my ride wait for me. I was so touched and surprised by her kindness.

I used to work in Home Health. One of the ladies I took care was a member of our. church. She was such a sweet little lady, & I loved her dearly. I had been having numerous problems w/my van, & was at my wits ends. I just kept sinking money into it constantly. When the lady I was caring for passed away, her daughter gave me the money I needed to purchase a new vehicle. To say I was floored doesn’t even begin to touch how I felt. If not for the generous gift from her children, I don’t know what I would have done. God is good, & this is just one example of how He always provides!!!

Hello. I have been blessed by others many times. One was someone from my church paying my way to the Women’s Ministry trip for the weekend at a hotel with many Christian friends. Another time a nephew bought a plane ticket to Missouri to spend time with my sister. I stayed a month and she died two months after that. Was the last time I saw her. Would love to win this $10.00 gift certificate. GOD bless. Maxie > mac262(at)me(dot)com <

  26. Janet Boyanton says

After my husband died I was enrolling my son in public school for the first time. As I filled out the paperwork in the school office, I wrote deceased for instead of my husbands name on the form, and that small act triggered a flood of tears. As I left the office a stranger followed me out. She asked me what was wrong and, after I told her, she took off her cross necklace and put it on me saying, “you need this more than I do right now.” The kindness of a stranger made a difference for me that day.
