When they should still be babies….

It's hard to believe they're not babies anymore!

This week we started a new school year. It’s amazing to think that school is back in session in the first week of August but there it is. As I sent my daughter into her first few days of 5th grade, my heart hurt just a little bit. After all, it seems like just yesterday that she was a preemie with feet so little that her socks fell off! My son has anxiously awaited the start of his kindergarten year and again, where did the time go? It’s starting to hit me that my children won’t be here forever. While you might need to remind me of this feeling when they’re teenagers and starting to rebel, at this moment I can’t imagine wanting them to leave the nest. They should still be babies!

There are times when the soul just needs a comforting cup of tea. If it’s one of those days for you, check out these titles that will have you cuddled at heart in no time.  If you prefer a novel that lifts your spirits, consider picking up Death Takes A Ride. Now, I know that sounds like a morbid title! But it’s really a cheerful, somewhat amusing book that blends a mild mystery into an easy Christian read.

This was the first of the Cate Kincaid series that I’ve read. [Read more…]

Daycare Packs now available at Lovable Labels

Disclosure: I received product samples as a Lovebug blogger.  The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

Lovable Labels is the place to go for labels that really stick to your kids’ stuff.  When my son and daughter were in daycare, we packed a breakfast daily so that they could have something fresh and healthy before starting their days.  Although the daycare provided paper plates, I tried to prepare the breakfasts on reusable plates with washable serving pieces.  The “permanent” ink I used to write my kids’ names on the plates seemed to always wash off.   The daycare teachers don’t have time to figure out which serving pieces belong to each student!  Using Lovable Labels helped me to save time and protected the teachers’ time, too.  The labels don’t come off in the washing machine or dishwasher.  Wash after wash, they look brand new!  They can also go in the microwave right on the container.  Lovable Labels makes it so much easier to keep up with reusable containers and other gear so you don’t have to choose disposable every time.   Check out the Lovable Labels Daycare Pack.   [Read more…]

How to use Argan Oil to protect your hair

According to my quick Google search, Argan oil is made from the fruits of the Argan tree.  Although the oil is often used in cooking, it can be used for cosmetic purposes as well.  You might remember my June post about using the Pro Naturals Hair Repair System.  I’m glad to say that we’re still using the products featured in that post.   [Read more…]

Do you tell stories about the past?

As I weeded through some old photos, I found this picture that I snapped in 2012.  We drove by as workers removed the sign for Bennigan’s Restaurant.  This was one place that frequently offered half-price appetizers; it was the perfect place for poor college kids.  I remember many a date or group outing taking place there.  We all pooled our money together to get a platter of potato skins, laughing and talking through the night.  When I saw the sign, it made me nostalgic for days gone by when there wasn’t a care in the world other than hanging out with my friends.  My kids wanted to know why the sign was important enough to preserve in a photograph.  It was hard to explain to them why I cared about an old restaurant closing down, but someday they’ll understand.

YNAB so you can have Summer Fun

Disclosure: I received this to review. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

Summertime is an expensive two months at our house.  We have a lot of expenditures around the end of the school year, from field trips to birthdays.  It’s also more expensive to be at home during those months because we tend to eat out more often, go on little day trips, and generally relax a bit more on our budgeting.  Those little outings really add up.  Using You Need A Budget (YNAB) has helped me stay on track.  It was really nice to go shopping last weekend knowing that I had set aside the money to buy my kids new shoes!  YNAB makes it convenient (and pretty painless) to set aside money for those little events that can easily become a crisis if you don’t budget for them.  Check out my review and tell me how YNAB could help you save money!
