What to read this weekend – These Broken Stars is only 99 cents. Happy New Year!

As we wrap up 2014, we head into the first weekend of the new year. Why not enjoy a great book to get the year off to a great start?  Here are some of my favorites from this week.

These Broken Stars - 99 cents through Jan 3!
I’m most excited about the fact that These Broken Stars is only 99 cents. This was one of my favorite books from 2014 (remember my post about it?).  It’s a sci-fi with a good blend of romance and suspense.  If you’re a fan of dystopian fiction, you might like the hierarchy of the elite and the military figures, too.  Go ahead and get This Shattered World (The Starbound Trilogy Book 2) while you’re at it because you’ll want to read that one next. Exhausted doesn’t even cover it

It’s the first weekend after the first week back to school. Let’s just say that exhaustion doesn’t even cover it. Last night (and several nights this week) I hit the pillow at 8:00 PM or before. When the kids go back to school, I’ve already been back in the building for a week. For several years now our school system has invited students back on the very first Monday of August. Hard to believe since we used to go back in mid-August! It’s nice to get out in May, though, so my complaints are quite the under-my-breath type.

My feet aren’t used to being in career shoes all day anymore. They’ve become accustomed to flip-flops or even going bare. And my back? Bending over desks all day have me walking like osteoporosis hit early. I’m also teaching a new subject area (Language Arts!!! Hooray for books!) and it’s been a whirlwind of learning for me as well as the students. [Read more…]

When I Fall In Love – book review

Beach Reads giveaway - ends 8/15 savingsinseconds.com

Welcome to the Beach Reads giveaway hosted by Stuck In Books.  The hop runs through August 15 so be sure to enter the other giveaways – they’re posted in the linky at the bottom of this post.  One lucky readers at Savings in Seconds will win a copy of When I Fall In Love.  I just can’t help but sing that song in my head when I look at the cover of this book; that’s probably what makes it the perfect beach read!

Susan May Warren is one of those chameleon writers that I love. She can go from a mysterious drama to a sweet romance and not skip a beat.  In the new Christiansen family novel, When I Fall in Love , she takes the romance spin a bit deeper by throwing a bit of tragedy into the mix.  Although I typically prefer to read all the books in a series, When I Fall In Love could really be a standalone novel.  It’s helpful to know the background story but isn’t completely necessary for the enjoyment of the plot. It Had To Be You by Susan May Warren — book tour and review

It Had to Be You book tour -- savingsinseconds.com

Now, the cover looks a little bit cheesy but don’t be fooled.  The Christiansens are a pretty tough family and they play hard. I received a copy of It Had To Be You to review and was a little surprised at how meaty the book was.  Were all those pages necessary to explain what was clearly a love story?  Yeah.  Because the book really focuses on Eden Christiansen and her growing-up story.   [Read more…]
