Mandy Hale is the answer to the question in the title, of course.   Just as the cover has a quirky, fun look you can expect the same from Mandy’s funny stories.  I received I’ve Never Been to Vegas, but My Luggage Has: Mishaps and Miracles on the Road to Happily Ever After to review and giggled all through this book. As a weekend read, I’ve Never Been to Vegas is completely enjoyable.  Mandy is the kind of girl you’d look forward to sitting by at the Pampered Chef party because she has such a fun outlook on life.  She doesn’t take things too seriously and can really laugh at her own antics.  As I read her stories, I kind of thought she must really be older than me because she made it sound as if she is just an old spinster.  But then I realized she is a few years younger than me!!  So in a way, she’s a bit dramatic about having already tapped the dating pool.  Girl, you’ve got plenty of time. Live it up!

Hale really gives Christian women a chance to reflect upon God’s will for their lives.  She has had her ups and downs in her chosen career path, yet keeps her chin up the whole way.  As I read her book, I kept thinking of people she reminded me of.  For example, she reminds me a bit of Dan Harris who shared his on-air panic attack in his book 10% Happier.  However, she has a definite Christian standpoint while Harris spoke from a Buddhist perspective.   The situations that Hale described in her book make it so easy to relate to her.  She shares her relationship with her first boyfriend, several bad dates, and even the elusive Mr. E.  In a way, Hale is the Christian author version of Taylor Swift.  And oh yeah, she reminds me of me.  Because I was that girl who didn’t have it all together until I finally did.  I remember hearing God’s call and deciding to follow it with my whole heart. And I remember how my road to happily ever after had some speedbumps but God just helped me fix those popped tires.  Plus she admitted to liking NKOTB.  This girl, she’s my kindred spirit!

There’s no perfect audience for this book.  New college students will relate to the fears of stepping out into the world.  Newly graduated kids in their 20’s will understand the frustration of heading out into the job market.  Women entering (or maybe exiting) relationships will appreciate Hale’s candid descriptions of the loves in her life.  You’ll laugh and maybe cry, but will definitely enjoy I’ve Never Been To Vegas But My Luggage  Has.
