It’s been an eventful weekend and it’s not even Saturday. My husband spent Thursday in the hospital (after a trip to the ER last weekend) due to kidney stone complications. He was in the surgery/recovery room for hours, which I spent twiddling my thumbs in the waiting room. I had The Confession by Jo Spain on my Kindle app, so it helped me to get through those nail-biting hours.
The story opens up with a violent crime and immediately — like, within the next 2 pages — tells us who did it. So you go into the book knowing what happened. You just don’t know WHY. It’s not exactly a thriller, since the big scary event already happened, but it does make you curious about the situation.
Told from all sides of the issue, the mystery is laid bare page by page. We get to watch as detectives unveil corruption and hidden secrets. We’re told Julie’s story through painful narrative, and most of JP’s version is based in the past. Author Jo Spain brings the characters to their knees while making the reader care about them, even when they’re so deep in doo-doo.
What really stuck with me from beginning to end was Julie’s matchless love for Harry. Even after he broke her heart and betrayed her, Julie stuck by his side. I didn’t like the ending, but I appreciated that Julie still loved Harry despite their history.
SPOILER ALERT……
I really liked the first cover (above) better. The one pictured below is the current cover on Amazon. WHY, WHY, WHY?? They should have stuck with the first cover, for reasons I won’t share but you’ll easily figure out if you read the book.
Sorry you had to spend time in the ER, but I’m glad you had a good book to keep you company. I read so many novels when my mom was going through her cancer treatment. They can serve as a really nice escape.

I hope that your husband is on the mend now! Sounds like you had a pretty enjoyable book to read, though. I haven’t heard of this one before and I will have to check it out. 🙂

I like the first cover better too. The books sounds good as I do like to know the Why. I will have to check this one out.

Sounds deep, definitely like a good mystery/thriller.
