Glory Days by Max Lucado #FCevents #giveaway

Max Lucado did it again! Glory Days is the next title in his library of uplifting reads.  Find Glory Days and more at Family Christian bookstores – online and in store!

This title is perfect for those who find themselves in a Christian wilderness. Wandering the desert for 40 years might not be a geographical location, but a spiritual wasteland.  Lucado’s affinity for alliteration shines bright in Glory Days.  It spoke to my busy-mom heart in such a way that I wanted to read it a second time.  One of the biggest aha moments I had while reading was the research finding that 11% of Christians believe they are in their own Glory Days.  That means the other 89% might not feel emboldened to share the news of Jesus Christ with others, because they’re so deep in their own lives.  I want to find myself in the 11%, within the group of people who see the Promised Land and make it over the border.  What about you?  [Read more…]

Through Waters Deep, Glory Days, and Hiding Places book reviews

Disclosure: I received these books to review. Post contains affiliate links; opinions shared are mine.

Sorry for the lack of new posts to read over the last week. We recently moved (yay!) but don’t have internet access yet (boo!) My phone’s data plan is hosting today’s wifi access, many thanks to the great customer service at Verizon for helping me set it up!   Taking a break from unpacking is made sweeter with some fun books to read. Every once in a while, I reward myself for the hard work by indulging in a wonderful piece of fiction. If you’re wondering what to read, check out these titles. Let’s start with Through Waters Deep.

Through Waters Deep - by Sarah Sundin
Through Waters Deep by Sarah Sundin has the beautiful appeal of the WWII dramas she’s published in the past.  It has a refreshing, modern beat that bears the unexpected. It slightly reminds me of the story Something Borrowed (Emily Giffin).  [Read more…]

#ad Check out the Family Values DVD sale at @Family Christian - lots of great deals. savingsinseconds.com #FCevents

Excuse the stack on top of my DVD player.  As you can see, we watch a lot of movies.

Although we have cable and Wi-Fi, with hundreds of channels and websites, there is not always a family-friendly show on television for us.  We closely monitor what our children see and hear.  My husband and I believe that it’s our parental responsibility to protect the innocence of our children, which includes the content that we introduce to their brains.  When the TV is on at our home, it’s usually turned to a documentary or a Veggie Tales cartoon.  In fact, even as I type this my husband and 5-year-old son are watching a mini-series on wildlife in China.  We also like to have an assortment of DVDs to play in the van or to take on trips with us.  Family Christian has great prices on DVDs that reinforce strong family values.   [Read more…]

On My Bookshelf: 3 titles for the Christian Church library

Disclosure: I received these books to review; this post contains affiliate links. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

When I started attending a church that had its own library, it was like a whole new world opened up to me.  At the public library it seemed that all books on theology or even basic spirituality were woefully outdated, dusty, and not appealing.  On a teenager’s then a college student’s budget, it wasn’t possible to purchase copies of books that I saw at the Christian bookstore.  I remember buying a Max Lucado book for the first time, reading it over and over again because (a) it was so good and (b) it was the only Christian book I had.  So again, when the church we joined as newlyweds had a library, I was so excited!!  I checked out books each week then returned them the next week, ready for more.  Here are three books I would love to add to it!
