Leap Into Books Giveaway event: Feb. 28-March 7, Win a copy of Safe in His Arms by Colleen Coble

Welcome to the Leap Into Books Giveaway Hop, co-hosted by I Am A Reader Not A Writer and Jinky is Reading! This event will take place from February 28th to March 7th.

Savings in Seconds is excited to share with you another book from Litfuse Publicity.   The first Colleen Coble book I read was Tidewater Inn. It was filled with intrigue and mystery, something that I really enjoy reading in a clean Christian fiction book.  The next Colleen Coble book I enjoyed was Secretly Smitten.  I loved the way that the characters felt so real to me, like old friends that I was catching up with.   So even though I haven’t read Safe in His Arms , I’m excited that one lucky Savings in Seconds reader will get the chance to do so!  Check out Colleen Coble’s website and tell me which of her books you’d like to read! On My Bookshelf: Tidewater Inn by Colleen Coble

Recently I had the opportunity to read Tidewater Inn and was excited to read more from Colleen Coble.  This was a really interesting book that kept me guessing.    The first chapter was already chock full of suspense and surprise….it was that way throughout the entire book.   There was just enough romantic tension to keep things fun.  Like the main character, I’m interested in architecture and old buildings.  I could visualize the locations that were described throughout the chapters.  Sometimes the detail was a little thick but I really enjoyed those parts overall.

The cover of Tidewater Inn is just beautiful.  I can visualize the scene perfectly.  It seems that the story would continue because there were so many interesting characters in this book.

Although I thought the plot would be predictable, the end of the book completely threw me for a loop.   If you are interested in reading Christian fiction that isn’t dripping with cheesiness, this would be a good choice.

The book tour concluded with a giveaway event.  Did you win?

What to read this weekend - Beyond the Ashes #LitfuseReads savingsinseconds.com

As I read more historical fiction novels that take place around the early 20th century, I learn so much!  In Beyond the Ashes, there was such a feeling of being there that I couldn’t help but pursue my own research about the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Then, I had to know more about early medical practices in the turn of the century.  Matters of etiquette and society’s graces were abundant in the story as well.  Although our home is far from prim and proper, the elegance in the story made me want to use a linen napkin or some such nonsense. The tense stirrings between Ruby and Gerald reminded me of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, with all the formality and stiff small talk.   [Read more…]

What to read this weekend + a title to watch for

Disclosure: I received these books to review. Post may contain affiliate links; opinions shared are mine.

With school starting on Monday (yes, it’s true! August 3!), I feel the pressure of the finite summer break. This week I read no less than 8 books, trying to satiate my yearning for fiction. There’s also a new book on my radar that I’ve got high hopes for!  If you’re wondering what to read this weekend, consider one of these titles.
#AnEmberInTheAshes

Although An Ember in the Ashes released in April 2015, this new world hasn’t made it onto my bookshelf yet.  It sounds like something my students will love, so I’m promising myself a little time to enjoy it once school is underway.  With comparisons to Hunger Games, Game of Thrones, and an author who is likened to Harry Potter’s J. K. Rowling, An Ember in the Ashes has a lot buzz surrounding it right now. [Read more…]

My obsession with things in sets

Disclosure: I received this book to review. The post contains affiliate links; opinions shared are mine.

When I love something, I want them in sets.  Are you that way?   I guess my mentality is, if ONE is good, MORE would be better!   For example, let’s start with shoes.  You can’t have a Tieks collection with only one pair.  So now that I’ve tried one pair, I really must have another.  In every shade, perhaps.  My husband’s head got whiplash when he saw me looking, and then I told him how much $$$.  My friend asked me if they were worth it, and at first I thought not….but when I realize how much I wear them, my mind is swayed.  And since this post is about SETS, it’s very important to have a set, not a pair.  Very different things.   I feel that way about books, too.
