What to read this weekend – 90 Minutes in Heaven

Disclosure: I received these books to review. Post contains affiliate links; opinions shared are mine.

90 minutes in Heaven - a must read!

By now you’ve probably heard of the story 90 Minutes in Heaven.   I read the book ages ago but didn’t realize it was on its way to becoming a movie. I’m not the least bit surprised!  Even those who don’t believe in the traditional Christian view of heaven will be astounded by the medical experiences that Don Piper endured.  Pronounced dead, then regaining consciousness again, after a devastating collision was just the beginning of his painful adventure.  The movie releases on September 11, and I’m a bit anxious to see it.  I was given the exclusive opportunity to watch the opening scene and had to brace myself for what was coming. When the opening scene is this powerful, you know that the rest of the movie can only be amazing!   For a true story about perseverance, determination, and the power of prayer, you simply MUST read and see 90 Minutes in Heaven.

Please note that the movie is rated PG-13. The accident scenes and injury images are quite graphic. It only adds to the tremendous miracle that took place! There’s another something special about this movie.  Giving Films is passionate about sharing hope-filled movies and donating ALL of their profits to charities and ministries who serve those in need.  Beginning with 90 Minutes In Heaven (their first film!), Giving Films is encouraging YOU to make a difference.  When you go to a Giving Films movie in theaters, visit .com and give the profits from your ticket to one of their charitable organizations.  Select from Christian Alliance for Orphans, Faith Bridge Foster Care, Hire Heroes USA, Hope International, LifeWater, Street Grace, and World Vision. This is such a unique way to pay it forward, while enjoying a night out!

My eye shadow choices lean toward earth tones and natural shades rather than the bright colors of summer. How do you change your makeup for fall? Measurable Difference wants to help you bring a youthful glow to your makeup routine.

Starting school in September is easier with these websites

It’s hard to believe that some students are STILL not back in school. We started on August 3! Starting school in September is a little easier with online shopping deals. A few days ago, one of my students told me (eyes shining) that there is a whole slew of new Apple devices ready to launch. It was clear that he’s making his Christmas list early this year! Many of us shop at resale stores and consignment shops for clothes; why not consider gently-used devices as a cost-effective option for technology? For those parents and children heading back to school after Labor Day, get ready for classroom success with Gazelle Certified devices. With Gazelle Certified, you can rest assured that the product cleared an extensive inspection and is not connected to a prior account. Additionally, these items come with a 30-day return window. I’m considering this option for a phone upgrade. I have very little storage on my iPhone, and would like to have one with more available space. Gazelle Certified is a realistic, affordable option for me. Cashing in your used device is also a way to make some quick cash when trying to upgrade your phone!

What to read this Labor Day Weekend – Middle School, O.K. is Great, and the Action Bible

On another note, we’ve recently enjoyed some great new children’s books. I downloaded several Audible titles to listen to on our commute over the past two weeks. The kids have asked for more mysteries, devotionals, and Bible stories. One of their favorites is the Action Bible. It was around $20 but so worth every penny. The stories are exciting for kids while being completely age-appropriate. We also got Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing, which tends to be conducive to quieter rides. My kids are asking great questions, and we’ve all experienced a deeper faith as a result of our conversations. I feel that God is really blessing that time we get to spend together. If you’d like to try Audible, you can get two free audiobooks with my link. [Read more…]

Good News Bible Stories book review

God's Good News Story Bible by Billy Graham. savingsinseconds.com

Reading to the baby in utero can be such a wonderful experience.  My babies moved around a lot when we read to them. They still love to hear read-aloud stories, and I imagine that part of this is due to the fact that they’ve been listening to stories since their tiny ears were developed.  [Read more…]

Borrowed and Blue by Emily Giffin book review

I recently saw the Borrowed and Blue combo pack.  This combines two books I enjoyed – Something Borrowed and Something Blue.  It made me wonder what type of series readers you guys are.   Here’s my habit….

  1. Even if I love the first book, I might not read the second in the series. It has to really appeal to me.
  2. I read every book in a series, although I might not read them in order. It’s just the way I roll.
  3. I buy every book in a series as soon as I figure out that I liked the first one. I want to have them ready at a moment’s notice.

I tend to be more like reader A.  If it’s a series that I’m completely obsessed with, like the Twilight saga years ago, I might go to the bookstore and purchase all of the available books in the series.   There are just too many books that I love, though, to commit to a series unless I’m totally enamored.   Therefore, I’ve read a lot of First books, but not the rest of the series. I’m anxious to find out what other bloggers designated as the must-read second book, so that I can break my vicious cycle!  I’m featuring Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin as one of my favorite books.  It was so refreshingly different, and the character interaction was so unexpected.  I loved it!  I wasn’t sure if I’d read the second book (Something Blue) but went ahead and bought it.  I was SO GLAD that I read it.  Something Borrowed made me like the characters who weren’t really my favorite in the first book.  It rounded out the experience.
