To me, this represents a magnificent friendship.
The creamer was an impromptu gift from my dear sister (in law, but we dropped that disclaimer a long time ago). She had my 2 kids in tow a few days ago, along with her own, and stopped by the store to pick up some items needed for school. My wonderful teaching assistant came into school a few weeks ago with handfuls of book sneak peeks. These are small promotional booklets to draw attention to an upcoming release. They often contain the first two or three chapters of the new book. My students could NOT get enough of poring through those pages! After a few days, the newness wore off, and those goodies sat untouched on my whiteboard tray. Would you throw them out? I’m forever craving books. My husband notices that I never seem to read them all, yet new mailers keep arriving full of the latest titles. Being the smart man that he is, he doesn’t deny me the pleasure of seeking out those new books! That’s why we’ve been married 18 years, I’d say. When the new release hop comes around, I’m usually drooling over these pics.

The day started out as semi-normal. I sat in front of the TV hoping in vain to see our school system’s name scroll across the bottom. When it became evident that the call wasn’t coming, I rounded up the sniffling, coughing troops and we headed out into the icy snow. After a slow crawl onto the treacherous main road, we got a text saying that school was called off. Another 20 minutes back home, and we were back into pajamas. The curtains are open, lights are off, and snow is falling — we feel like we’re sitting inside a snowglobe. Hooray for a snow day! It’s already off to a great start.

Since books have always been a big part of my life, from even my earliest memories, it’s difficult for me to imagine NOT wanting to read. I’ve been known to read the car manual out of sheer desperation for reading material. Becoming a language arts teacher seemed inevitable! These days, when parents come to me with the worry that their child hates to read, the desperation starts to claw at my heart all over again. I’ve got to find a book for that child! I’m a big fan of the Jesus Calling books. I have given away copy after copy to friends and family. The book just speaks to me, and makes me feel so comforted on tough days. When Jesus Today came out, I knew they’d love this one. Although it’s geared to kids ages 6-10, I find myself being uplifted through each daily message as well. It makes our family’s devotion time very special. It’s important, though, to let kids know that these are not actually scriptural messages. Instead, they’re from the imagination of the author Sarah Young. The daily devotionals reflect her thoughts spent in prayer. The take-away is lovely, and feels like a God Hug! It’s one of our new favorites, and I hope you’ll enjoy it as well.
