Little Fun Club book box — great way to make reading a summer activity

Little Fun Club blog tour. A subscription box for children's books. Great for kids ages 0-12.

At a reading conference I attended last fall, one of the presenters shared that children can lose up to 3 months of learning over the summer months. The cure, so to speak?  Keep them reading!  You realize how big of a challenge that is, though.  One way to make reading fun over the summer is to tie it in with “fun” mail.  The Little Fun Club book box contains just what you need.

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah #TheNightingale @StMartinsPress @SheSpeaksUp

I’m a fan of Kristin Hannah’s contemporary work, but hadn’t read her titles of historical fiction before. When I received The Nightingale for free from SheSpeaks, it was in my purse from then on. Recently published in paperback, this book captures all the emotional turmoil of family, tough choices, and personal challenge.

Now that summer is on its way, it’s time to refresh the bookshelf with some new titles.  These children’s books from Silver Dolphin have interactive features that encourage readers to manipulate the pages to enjoy the reading experience.  The three Push, Pull, Turn books present transportation and career ideas.  This is a high-interest topic for many young children, so it will get a lot of use!  Fortunately, the pages are sturdy and thick, so you won’t mind when the kids read it over and over. Illuminated Texts made simple ~~ Complete Guide to Bible Journaling

Disclosure: I received this book to feature; post contains affiliate links. Opinions shared are mine.

I hope you don’t think I’ve fallen off the face of the earth.  Things have just been so busy around here that I had to take a step back and make sure my family was taken care of.  The flu hit us a for a second round, then an ugly stomach bug was passed around.  My daughter had several school events going on around the same time, so she got bogged down with  makeup work from the classes she missed.  She ended up bringing home this art project for illuminated texts.  Thank goodness I had a review copy of The Complete Guide to Bible Journaling — it was put to good use!

The NKJV Woman’s Study Bible

Disclosure: I received this book from Litfuse. Opinions shared are mine.

Our pastor challenged the congregation to read the Bible on a regular basis. While this might seem like an obvious activity for most Christian churchgoers, it’s definitely one area where many busy people slack (myself included).  I was excited to receive the NKJV Woman’s Study Bible for review because I knew that I could really grow with it.  [Read more…]

A Fragile Hope by Cynthia Ruchti book review

Disclosure: I received this book from Litfuse. Opinions shared are mine.

Cynthia Ruchti is one of my favorite Christian authors. As an interesting observation, it seems that most of the Ruchti books I’ve read centered around a dysfunctional marriage. A Fragile Hope carries on that tradition.

Her Secret by Shelley Shepard Gray

Disclosure: I received this book from Litfuse. Opinions shared are mine.

It might seem like Amish families would be immune to modern “English” problems.  Unfortunately, they’re just as susceptible to bad situations in life, as one could read in Her Secret by Shelley Shepard Gray. [Read more…]

Zenn Diagram by Wendy Brant review

Disclosure: I received this book as part of the blog tour. Opinions shared are mine.

This book was for the little high school girl that still lives in a small section of my heart. The one who notices the cool moms in the mall, wants to wear blue mascara, and wishes she never let herself get fat.  What I’m also saying is,  Don’t think that Zenn Diagram is just for teens, because every one of us can relate to Eva.  [Read more…]
