SLEEP.
Remember what that was?
If you have young kids, sleep may be something that you vaguely remember while in a caffeine-induced fog. My son is nearly three years old and although he “sleeps through the night,” most of that time passes in my bed. Sometime around midnight he sneaks into my room and squirms into the covers next to me. Of course, he has to share my pillow. And my bed space. And likes to entwine his legs around me like I’m his personal body pillow. Sleeping with my bony three year old is like cuddling with a bag of clothes hangers. Then he’s ready to wake up around 5:00. Yes, AM. The second his eyes open, he pounces on me to announce that his “tummy is gwowin” which means it’s time to insert calories into the baby bird’s mouth. Sigh…..another night of sleep that has evaded me.
I was willing to try just about anything when I read about My Tot Clock. Simply put, it’s a child-friendly clock that helps children to know when it’s time to sleep and when it’s okay to get up, all based on the color of the clock face. Yes, it’s that simple but isn’t it GENIUS?! There are a bunch of other cool features too, like the night-light that gradually changes brightness, the songs it can play, the discipline timer, even a positive reinforcement color!! Dude, I just want my child to wake up at a normal hour. Can I get an Amen?!
So the Tot Clock was pretty much a Godsend for us. My son thought it was a toy at first, so I did have to teach him about the meanings of the colors. I stuck with the basics at first, so as not to confuse him as to the priority of the situation. I read all these testimonials where everyone’s children had these magical results. You know what? Pretty much true! My kiddo is very routine-oriented and once he knew the drill (don’t get up until the clock is yellow) he stuck with it. We have had a few early mornings, but mostly my son has responded well to the Tot Clock. And I will take what I can get!
