Disclosure: I received a free copy of the book. Opinions shared are mine.
One of the first Christian book series I ever read was Left Behind. It was so good that I bought all the books in the series, loaning them out to friends anytime I could get someone to read it. When asked to share Dead Sea Rising by Jerry B. Jenkins, it was an automatic yes.
Look at that amazing cover! It has so much movement and drama. The story is based around archaeological evidence that might change history. How can you resist?
The chapters are quite short — only 2-4 pages in length — but they alternate between different time periods. Switching between characters and eras makes the suspense drag a little bit. It took me a while to get into the story, and I had to force myself to finish it. I don’t really like the main character, Nicole Berman, as much as I probably should yet, and that’s part of what is taking me longer to read it. The book is very heavy on dialogue (sometimes using different dialects) which also adds to the slower pace.
However, the stark contrast in scenarios brings me to pause and think. The historical background is really fascinating! I love reading the Hebrew prayers. It’s challenging to consider how these stories and characters might intersect, especially in future titles of the series. This wasn’t my favorite Jerry Jenkins book, but I would like to see how the story ends.
